Thomas LaVine - By The Coast (Feat. Luna Keller)

December 18, 2020

As Dylan Dunlap said, "Who Would Have Thought" that two of our IMC Certified artists, could make a song together? I was already surprised and a bit moved when I got to know that a collaboration project was on its way. But now that everybody can hear the amazing result, I can say that I'm proud of them. Because, as said on the "Submit"page, I've created an IG group chat for our recurrent artists to exchange about their experience, to share their tips in music promotion etc. Like a kind of family. Always there for each other. And I wouldn't have guessed that something special could happen between those artists. Well, okay, I have to admit that I already thought about it, but it was only a dream running secretly in my head. And, as the "About" page says, it's like another dream coming true. Well, you'll learn more about the creation process below, in the artist's points of view :) What about this song now? Or... I'd rather say "What about this masterpiece"? I love when Thomas LaVine  loses himself in an acoustic universe. When he takes his guitar and starts to sing, it's like he's stopping the clock. And time is suspended. Inviting Luna Keller which plays acoustic livestreams regularly is probably the best idea he's ever had. Both artists are sharing quite the same musical universe, the same poetry and the same taste of beauty. They both have a huge sensitivity and their words speak for them. The production is quite simple and a "guest" instrument appears right before Luna starts to sing. But I won't tell you which one, so you'll have a little surprise. The vocal harmonies are wonderful. Amazing work here! "By the Coast" is probably one of the best songs I've heard this year (among thousands other tracks). It's a perfect way to end this strange year. And to start all over again, as it may be one of the most played song on my Spotify in 2021. This song's tide rises, and swallows our problems and all the negative we've been through this year. I hope you'll love it as much as I do. And stay tuned, because Luna is preparing some surprises for you on the IMC for the new year to come but shhh... still a secret for the moment.

'By the Coast' has been included in our "Indie Folk" playlist, and of course, you will now hear this amazing track on the Indie Music Radio.

Lyrics :

Help me out my long lost friend, tell me all that could've been
And it I start to lost myself, a secret I could never tell
Oh, oh, meet me down by the Coast
I'll be waiting there for you
Until the ocean tides rise and swallow the sky
I'll be waiting there for you
If I get lost among the trees, could they keep me company?
When the morning light grows dim, come the night I'll find you then
Oh, oh, meet me down by the Coast
I'll be waiting there for you
Until the ocean tides rise, and swallow the sky
I'll be waiting there for you
On the beach you lay
And watch the stars dance upon the by
And ask the lovely night if she could stay
Oh, oh, meet me down by the Coast
I'll be waiting there for you
Until the ocean tides rise
And swallow the sky
I'll be waiting there for you
Until the ocean tides rise
And swallow the sky
I'll be waiting there for you

Thomas LaVine's point of view :

I actually discovered the great Luna Keller on Indie Music Center’s website because her podcast is featured there. I enjoy and read from the site, and upon discovering her soulful and emotion packed vocals, I knew I wanted her in the song. I actually sat on the song for quite some time, because I wanted a female vocal in it and was waiting on the right one. To my delight, Luna was in! In short, the song is about an eternal struggle to open yourself up to others and truly be vulnerable, and to share your perspective with those you truly love. I’m naturally a little closed off, but I want to communicate better and let the people I love know that I’m always here, waiting for them "until the ocean tides rise, and swallow the sky".

Luna Keller's point of view :

When Thomas reached out to me to ask if I would like to sing on one of his upcoming songs the first thing I did was check out his music. I quickly realized that it's exactly the kind of music I love so I was looking forward to knowing what he had in mind. After meeting over Zoom and hearing "By The Coast" I felt really connected to the song and the story that Thomas shares through it. Being vulnerable and allowing the people you love into that very personal space is something we probably all struggle with. I got to visit a really fragile and emotional place within myself while singing it and I'm proud that I got to contribute to such a beautiful song by such a wonderful artist.

Born in Florida and raised in the small town of Blacksburg, SC, Thomas blends the organic textures of his roots with ethereal textures and nuances. He is just as at home as a minimalist as he is in soaring choruses and driven guitars. LaVine is a songwriter who loves using captivating metaphors to convey honest emotional ideas. He has been playing music for his whole life, and started to write songs when he was about 16 years old. He took influences from a wide variety of bands and artists from classics like John Denver to modern favorites such as Andrew Belle and Noah Gundersen. He has developed a unique and authentic style that creates a space for emotion and honesty to take shape in a new way.

Luna Keller's biography:

Luna Keller grew up in a very musical family – her father playing several instruments like guitar, bass and piano, her mother playing the piano and singing. She has been singing in the local choir with her mum since being 8 and started to try out all kind of instruments at more or less the same age. However, it took her five years to fall in love with the guitar, which she learned to play with the help of her father. She started soon to write her first songs on her new found favourite instrument. Since then she uses her music to express herself and to channel her feelings and emotions – and has found her true passion. Luna started busking in her hometown on the sunny island of Tenerife and during a brief stay in Ireland and playing small stages and events.
