Sometimes there are artists who give us renewed hope for French music. And Breaky Boxes is one of them.

Our blog was designed to show the French that there was something other than Vitaa & Slimane, Kendji, and other formatted artists that we are bombarded with on the radio.

Unfortunately, the media limits us to less than 1% of French creative output. In short, we won’t rehash the debate, but we invite you to read our article on the subject.France, a country with closed musical borders?“.

This morning, we had a very pleasant surprise in our music queue.

After receiving more than 6000 songs, this is the first time we have a very good quality French indie-folk production.

Because Breaky Boxes is indie-folk (banjo, mandolin, and accented rhythm), one of our favorite genres on Indie Music Center.

The group, from Rouen, puts a lot of energy into writing and composing, and it shows.

And at the 41st second, we thought we were dreaming. Whaaaat! French people making music like that? That’s incredible.

Yes, it’s huge! And the good news is that their first album, “Resting Wall“, is released on March 6th!

Jean-François Moortgat, Brice Sibille and Valentin Queval come from Rouen, and formed the group Breaky Boxes in 2017.

And they already have all the makings of greats since they have already performed at the famous Sziget Festival, which needs no introduction.

“Elder Ones” is a luminous piece, which has nothing to envy from Mumford & Sons and other giants of the genre.

Carefully written English lyrics, impeccable singing without a French accent, and a magnificently professional music video make Breaky Boxes a very easily exportable group.

A melody that makes you want to move around and jump around a campfire on the beach.

The production is clean, highly professional, and gives us a glimpse of a bright future for these Rouen natives.

We absolutely love them. You’ll definitely be seeing them again in our pages. Hooray!

A gem to be found in Our Spotify playlist for February 2020.
