When I first heard the opening line of this song, “When the world turns colder and the sun stops shining bright,” I immediately thought of “When the sun goes down and the band won’t play” from Always Remember Us This Way by… well, you know who. I don’t know why. Maybe because the first three notes sound a little similar. Maybe also because GLIMTVIS feels a bit like the American dream, somewhat like the one the heroine of A Star is Born lives?
Rikke Egholm Ravn and Rasmus Pedersen, however, are not from the USA, they’re from Denmark! Of course, they must have grown up with that American culture, and they even traveled to the USA in February 2024 to write an album, which is now available and full of little gems. To be honest, it took me several days to decide which song to pick for the Mixtape and this article. After some hesitation, because all the songs are great, I went with “Finding Me And You”, but I highly recommend you check out the entire album ‘The Nashville Confessions’, which is a best-of on its own!
Written in Nashville, and recorded in Denmark, with soundtracks that crossed the Atlantic Ocean multiple times, the album is a true sonic journey through various musical genres. Yet, every time, you find one essential ingredient: a perfect symbiosis between Rikke and Rasmus.
Whether they sing in turn as if exchanging lines (for example, in the verses of “Finding Me And You”), or together (in the chorus), with perfectly measured vocal harmonies, you immediately understand something obvious: these two were made to make music together.
Co-written with Dan Smalley, whom they met on the road to Nashville, and elevated by guitarist Robert Miller, this song shows all the fun Rikke and Rasmus have making music together.
This song brings people together, and here’s why I chose it: because it’s December, a time when we usually come together for the holiday season. But I also find that this song has a very comforting side, which will perfectly accompany those who are alone and help them get through this more difficult time of the year.
“Finding Me and You” warms the heart with its warm writing, honest and sincere interpretation, and the authenticity of its performers, whom I had the great pleasure of chatting with backstage for a podcast recording. Accessible, human, and especially friendly—don’t hesitate to write to them, and you’ll discover this world still has plenty of humanity to offer!
