Red alert. Understand “Red alert”.
Thanks to this song, we wanted to create a “Song of the Month” section. Because honestly, we absolutely fell in love with it when we received it. That was a week ago. We hit the “Replay” button non-stop. We were ecstatic. And when we saw that it wasn’t released until October 19th, we gritted our teeth. What torture to wait a whole week to share this gem with you!
So why did this track resonate with us? Quite simply because it fits perfectly into the “Music For Your Heart” concept. 100%.
To understand it in detail, we invite you to do as we did during the first listen: sit down, plug in headphones, and turn the volume up quite loud.
Beth Mendes scores an early point in the opening seconds of the song thanks to her voice. Singular. Unique. Pleasant. You don’t hear voices like that every day. And for an artist, being easily recognizable from the very first notes is a huge advantage. Very few can boast of that.
Secondly, the lyrics and delivery. Even if you’re not bilingual, you’ll easily understand the lyrics because the delivery is perfect for French speakers like us.
On a more technical note, Beth scores another point. From the very first lines, you’ll hear a touch of reverb (for those unfamiliar, it’s a kind of subtle resonance) combined with a slight stereo echo. Artists usually have a bad habit of overusing this, resulting in vocals that sound like they were recorded live from the bathroom. Here, it’s not too much. Just the right amount. Well done.
Then, the fourth point, which is important in a song, is the lyrics. Sure, it’s a breakup song, but Beth Mendes doesn’t just settle for the classic “I loved you, it’s over, let’s cry.” No.
She goes straight to the point: “Why did you screw up with me?” or “Why was it so easy to break my heart?”
Fifth point, even more important. The melodies. In a piece of music, we distinguish between two melodies: the instrumental melody and the vocal melody. These days, it’s rare for them to match. Well, here… they do.
The melody is easy to catch, and that’s a huge advantage for an artist, because someone who liked the song will sing it, hum it. Then it will pique the curiosity of whoever hears it. And that’s how you get free and simple publicity: word of mouth.
Finally, sixth point: the video that accompanies the song. Perfectly executed. Not overacted. A subdued atmosphere and masterful lighting that beautifully highlights the protagonist’s angelic face.
In short, as you will have understood, Beth hit the nail on the head.
We listened to the song seven times while writing the article. We even got logged out of the site and had to start the whole thing over again. Nope, it doesn’t save. No big deal, we won’t do that again.
But it proves that this song is addictive. Maybe you will become addicted too. Thank you, Beth.
