Today we’re going to the United Kingdom, and more specifically, to Bury St Edmunds, in Suffolk, in the Southeast of England, between Cambridge and Norwich.
That’s where you’ll find The Catch, the group formed by Adam Levey on vocals and drums, Eddie Allen on guitar and Nyan Horne on bass.
An unsettling guitar and bass open this gem, delicately carried by a discreet cymbal, before the drums join them to finish a mysterious intro.
Then Adam’s controlled voice opens the hostilities.
Listening more closely, this lovely voice reminds us of our dearly missed Viola Beach, whom we introduced to you a few years ago.
A short break, before launching into a chorus that you’ll be able to sing along to after the first listen.
A chorus which, incidentally, arrives quite early, 33 seconds from the start, to be precise.
Having been program director for several radio stations and having been immersed in this field for almost 20 years, I can confirm that a chorus that comes before 40 seconds can quickly make a song a hit.
That’s all the best we could wish for this group!
The refrain is followed by pleasant backing vocals which lead us to a slightly more energetic second verse, before very quickly returning to the catchy refrain of the song.
The bridge offers us a light break, carried by an electric guitar sound that we love and that recalls the excellent Angels & Airwaves.
One last turn towards the chorus before an apotheosis-like finale, reinforced by much more present percussion and vocalizations that let loose a little more.
And the very end with the choir and guitar leaves us wanting to listen again. Right now!
Thanks to the members of The Catch for allowing us to give you a sneak peek of this track, just before its public release!
