Tommy Ashby

Scotland-based Tommy Ashby’s background is a rather unusual one for a singer-songwriter.

Awarded a Ph.D. in the perception of sound before most of us have grown out of daily midday lie-ins Tommy manages to blend a technical understanding of the way our brain processes sound with the indisputable pure creative energy of someone who grew up writing and playing music in the wilds of Scotland.

Tommy’s recent single Why? follows his live performance of the track on the BBC Scotland Quay Sessions.

Such was the positive response, he thought he ought to make a studio recording while putting the finishing touches to the new EP (coming April 2019), again working with double Grammy Award winning producer/mixer Sam Okell, especially known for his work on the ground-breaking immersive audio surround mix of Beatles classic record Sergeant Pepper.

Tommy’s last EP, Restless Love, garnered support from Fearne Cotton, Radio 2, Spotify editorial, Record of the Day, and major global syncs for Grey’s Anatomy, Netflix’s The Innocents, and NBC’s Midnight Texas to name a few.

His previous single Guilty is currently running on a trailer for the prime-time UK drama series Silent Witness.

He has recently supported Scottish Band The Xcerts at St Pancras Old Church and Canadian singer-songwriter Josh Hyslop at the Old Blue Last.

He has previously toured UK & Europe supporting the likes of Rhodes, Tom Speight, and Nina Nesbitt as well as a recent Highland tour with Sean McGowan.

To add to this heady cocktail of activity, Tommy is also a champion runner.

Ranked second in Britain when he was very young and training throughout his life with the likes of Olympian champion Allan Wells, he still runs most days and spent last summer running through all the European cities of Ed Sheeran’s mega Divided tour, on which he was playing as a session guitarist.
