Follow HOAX
Many of you (very many) send us DMs to find out if we have any recommendations for you, and ask us what we think is the best indie track of summer 2022. We usually have the answer to this question around mid-June, but this year, despite hundreds of hours of listening and searching, nothing came of it.
Good news! We finally found it! It’s HOAX‘s new single “Drew”. HOAX is the slightly crazy but exceptionally inspiring project of Michael Raj and Frantz Cesar, from Queens, NYC. If you were around before IMC was even called IMC, you’ve already crossed paths with these guys on our pages in 2018 with the single “Grow”, and we remember writing about this single “Remember the name of this band, because it could surprise you and panic the counters on Spotify.” Without suspecting that 4 years later, “Grow” would have 2,345,807 streams!
Today, “Drew” is their 2nd feature on IMC. And what a feature! It’s the final single from a really original 17-track concept album detailing the inner workings of being vs. doing. What a great adventure and what a perfect track to conclude it! This song is so good that it too could see several million streams in a few years. We found only one flaw: the duration. It’s so powerful that we would have liked it to last longer. But it is always possible to listen to it on repeat.
Vocals, melody, huge production, everything is perfectly mastered and meticulous, it’s a real work of craftsmanship that deserves a score of 11/10.
The song is so catchy as hell right from the intro that we’re ready to play a game with you: The object of the game is to hold out for as long as possible without moving. How long will you hold out without shaking your head? We lasted 7 seconds. Record to beat.
Now, all you have to do is put this track in the car, open the window, arm outside, and savor the few weeks of scorching summer that remain. If you are in the southern hemisphere, then this will motivate you to get out of the winter and give you all the energy you needed.
