What to do when a love wound gets deeper and deeper day by day? For most of the musicians we present to you on IMC, the solution is in front of them: writing. This is what Filiah, an Austrian artist, did for her third single called "In a Haunted House". A magnificent mostly acoustic ballad, where the singer fights with her scars and fears.

She explains that she built a fence to protect her haunted house, filled with memories and nostalgia. Until he comes back. And the song then takes on another key and becomes brighter. But Filiah leaves us with questions because we don't know what will happen next. After talking about ghosts, what will happen?

Very gently, with a very comfortable and delicate voice, Filiah tells us this story, as we would confide in a friend. The production is light and harmonious and gives us time to close our eyes and follow the very colorful lyrics of the song. We can then imagine these two characters, whom everything seems to divide, then finally bring together, and we set the scene in our head.

As Filiah said: "For me, this song feels like a trip through my diary entries. Seeing this whole past toxic relationship of mine pass by me again just made me realize that fighting for this one person had me ending up really tired. It's the last song on my upcoming album and ends on a much lighter note than the rest, reminding me that trusting in people again is the hardest yet bravest thing you can do after trauma.".

Maybe the name Steven Reid Williams doesn't ring a bell. And yet, without knowing it, you may have heard his work before.

Indeed, the artist who comes from Stroud (not very far from Gloucester, England), was the session pianist of a rather impressive list of stars: Leo Sayer, Paul Young, Nadine Coyle, Lulu, Melanie C, and The Overtones.

His next album, "Hearts and Stones", made from originals, will be out soon, and "Fallen" is a great preview of it.

If you like big awesome voices, much like Rag'n'Bone Man or JJ from Kaleo, you're going to fall in love with Steven's voice.

Sometimes there are songs that come out at the right time. This one particularly touched me because I am able to relate to this song quite easily.

If you are feeling lost and are not sure where to go or what to do, this song might give you some motivation and is there to tell you something like "hey, you're not alone!"

The vocal harmonies are delicious and the melody is captivating. The Nautical Theme has succeeded in making us take off on a cloud and we no longer want to go down.

Tesia and Matt are from Dayton, Ohio, not that far from The Satellite Station. They offer us an indie-folk sound made of organic instruments and authenticity. And the duo works wonderfully.

When we heard the first minute of "If This Is Love", we thought "ah great, it's been a long time since we had a good indie-pop anthem". Then the chorus came, and big surprise! Big electric guitars that land without warning, and in the end we end up with an incredibly powerful indie-rock track.

The mix of genres in this new single from PALMIST is absolutely amazing. Alternating electronic elements and big rock sound, this Essex-based band offers itself the luxury of being able to reach an even wider audience than if they had been satisfied with a single genre.

It must be said that rock, and even very powerful rock, has always been part of PALMIST's DNA. If you are an alternative rock fan, you will love their previous releases. But what we love the most about this band is the fact that they have adapted to the evolution of current sounds and have succeeded in introducing more contemporary sounds to their production. After all, if you look at the bands that have crossed the years, if not decades, they are the ones that have dabbled in all genres, much like Coldplay. PALMIST has the potential, to be able to defy time while attracting several generations and several audiences with varied tastes.

The bridge literally made us soar, with its high-pitched vocals before a final chorus that electrified us. We just wanted to get up from the chair ... and throw it out the window!

Very well written, "If This Is Love" describes a somewhat tumultuous romantic relationship, which one would rather run away than continue.

With an energetic and dynamic vocal performance, stunning production, and undeniable writing talent, PALMIST sets the bar very, very high for this new single.

Despite a correct duration of more than four minutes, we didn't see the time pass. No problem, we'll be able to listen to it on repeat all summer long.

On January 22, we introduced you to Hunter Falls with "All I Never Wanted".

This is his second appearance on IMC with a new single called "PAIN", and we can already tell you that it's heavy!

The Belgian artist has set the bar very high again with a great production quality that is somewhat reminiscent of Imagine Dragons. The same power, the same professionalism, and the same songwriting talent.

The melody of the chorus is terribly catchy and gives us the impression that time is suspended. Because it was hard to realize that what we were hearing exists for real. Hunter Falls signs here a masterpiece, very cinematic, with powerful vocal harmonies and an intense cry for help.

Despite the fact that he has over 5 million monthly listeners on Spotify, with tracks that have exceeded 200M streams, we had never heard of Noah Kahan before. And when we heard "Godlight" for the first time, we regretted it very quickly.

Here we are again in Bournemouth, a pretty seaside resort in the south of the United Kingdom, where we put our suitcases down for a few days in 2017.

This is where you are most likely to meet Carley Varley and her incredible skills. Carley multiplies the caps, makes live streams on social media, recently had the pleasure of playing live in front of a real audience, and she will publish in October her "Seasons" EP of which here is the first extract. Quite a year!

Much more pop than her previous releases, "Going Under" is inspired by one of our pretty English's favorite bands: Paramore. We often see her on social media doing covers of Paramore tracks or even other artists who rocked our teenage years like Avril Lavigne.

"Going Under" has everything we love about a pop anthem. Her writing is mastered to perfection, in a rather dark theme, it must be admitted and contrasts with the playful and catchy side of the melody. A more daring bet for the young singer, who until now, had rather accustomed us to less rhythmic sounds and a little more folk energy. But the exercise is successful. Increasingly comfortable vocally, we are delighted to see Carley having fun at what she does, while also getting more and more professional. It looks like "Going Under" is starting a sharp and risky turn, but one that could lead Carley Varley to the successful finish line.

We think that she is the next IMC artist that we'll be able to meet in person in the next few months if the travel conditions allow it. Hey, remember I already invested the equivalent of a house for this blog, so I can cross the seas. She really worth it because she has that genuine side that a lot of artists tend to lose when fame knocks on their door. Carley is far too human to lose that authenticity that runs through her veins. She is one of those accessible artists, who you can chat easily with, and she has one huge strength: I've never seen her without a smile. And this smile will take her far. Her smile will lead her to where she deserves: to make a living from her music.

At the beginning of January, we had started 2021 very well by presenting "Broken Love" by Brother Ryan.

I think at that time I didn't realize how much potential this Chicago project had. Yes, of course, I really believed in it. But today an EP is released which makes me think that we have to believe in it even stronger. Because the quality is amazing.

Sometimes I still wonder how people can listen to traditional radio stations, which give us the same commercial crap every hour. How can we get to this point, of not being curious enough to discover other equally talented artists? Oops. Even more talented.

Okay, I admit that I might be a bit biased myself because I listen to indie music 10 hours a day and I only turn on my radio once a week because my old car does not have a BlueTooth car radio. But the little I hear each time on the air does not reassure me.

In a time when everything goes very quickly, where you can stream without any limit, at the speed of light thanks to optical fiber or 5G, it still seems difficult to me to accept that we can miss artists like Brother Ryan. But the world is wild sometimes, and we have to be content.

This is why I am happy today to tell you about their new EP "Remnants" which is released today and which is from "Stranger". And it's a perfect transition from what I just said. Because the song evokes this feeling of the wildness of the world.

And brings us to lots of questions. How can we miss great things when we live on the same planet? "I don't know you like I wish I did" is a very punchy phrase, repeated at the end of each chorus.

The singer's voice sometimes reminds me of one of my favorite bands: the Irish guys from Kodaline. And "Stranger" has the same elements, in terms of emotional impact: an exceptional voice, beautiful writing, and divine production. This EP is like a breath of fresh air, in a world where it is difficult to breathe (especially these last 18 months).

Thanks, Brother Ryan for bringing better days to music. This is exactly how the music you hear on the radio every day should be: honest, genuine, sincere. And made with the heart.

Good indie-rock tracks are becoming increasingly rare these days. And the indie-rock bands with a female front singer even more. So we can already say that Twin Rituals are an exception.

Just hearing the intro, we were already seduced by the very high quality of production. The bouncy bassline and frenzied guitar riffs are impeccable.

And when we heard the singer's incredible voice, it was as if we had put our fingers in the socket. Imagine a rather classic voice, a bit like London Grammar, but on a decidedly rock universe. The result is surprising and even ... stripping!

The song evokes an interesting parallel between man and animal, and in this specific case, lion hunting. Very strong words which hide a message evoking the manipulation and the strong influence that we can sometimes have on each other. Mark Houston continues to surprise us. "The Watcher" is the sixth single from his album which will be released on July 16th. And once again, the bar is high. Very high.

On this new track, Mark throws the words to the beat, and it's like they're dancing to the music. But not just any words. Because when you reach such a level of quality, you don't really talk about writing or lyrics anymore. It's poetry. "I've been riding along a passenger with a ghost asleep at the wheel. Coasting in complacency is easy but sometimes not choosing is making a choice".

We really loved this sentence in particular. That is true. Not to choose is to make a choice. Why should we justify everything?

"The Watcher" is definitely a writing gem. And believe us, we've listened to thousands of songs. We have rarely seen such a feather.

We also really liked the last line of the chorus: "And I've seen you in my dreams and not the good ones". It reminded us of Dominic Romano & Luna Keller's "Never In My Dreams", which we shared two weeks ago.

Mark Houston is amazing with his creativity. Until then, we were always amazed by the quality of his melodies, and now we realize how much a genius he is. And not just a genius of words. Because every element of the song, from the writing to the production, from the vocals to the instrumentation ... everything fits together perfectly! As in the Tetris game, all the pieces of the puzzle find their place, even if the pieces did not seem easy to place at first.

We had the immense privilege of listening to a preview of the album which is coming out in barely a month. The good news is, there is nothing to throw away. 11 tracks. 11 nuggets. The bad news is that this album is very addicting and you will not be able to live without it. But after all, is it really bad news? Come on, a little more patience, it's the final stretch of Mark Houston's marathon before reaching the finish line: a well-deserved consecration with an exceptional album.

Mae Krell is only 22 years old. And we think that's what surprised us the most.

The first time we heard "Snow", we have to admit that we took a big slap and that we had trouble getting over it. We first fell in love with her incredible voice and she gave us chills from 0:11. When she started singing, actually. An exceptional voice, which gives her a strong vocal identity, which we will not forget.

Because we can easily detect the fragility of Mae in her voice. She tells things that are not easy to confide in: her fears, her doubts, and "Snow" is a jewel of revelation. A skin-deep fragility, which marries a powerful melody, in which the percussions play a very important role. As if to drive the point home a little more, or to insist on the fragile and emotional side of the song.

How can you feel better when you still have too many questions running in your mind? This is the subject of this song that will take you on a journey of introspection, between highs and lows.

Mae has been active in music for a few years now, and her Spotify has numbers that make you dizzy. Several of her tracks are already beyond 500K streams. And "Snow", for its efficiency and its strong power of seduction, could follow the same path.

Very followed on social media, even if Mae evokes a little sad themes in this song, she knows that she will never be alone and today she benefits from a very committed and supportive community. And we are more than delighted to present her to you today because she moved us deeply.

It is in Sweden that we are leaving today, to find James Auger, aka A Choir of Ghosts, a great artist that we had already presented to you 2019 with "An Ounce of Gold". Then we shared "Skin & Bones" in November 2020. So, 3rd time today for James on IMC.

A wonderful and talented artist with resolutely folk roots, and who offers us in his latest single "Oceans", released last Friday, a journey to the depths of ourselves. The last 18 months have profoundly changed us and radically changed the way human relationships are conducted. And we admit that sometimes we can be quickly disappointed.

Social distancing, masks, the world has changed the way we meet, the way we live.

As James, said, "Oceans is about the space that has grown between everyone over the last year. We're all just stood at the dock waiting for the boat to come and take us home, it's just that no one knows when that will come."

It seems that the end of this period is near and that the boat is finally approaching. As always, James sings with his heart and writes with his soul. The first sentence of the song is quite explicit in the message: "I'm trying to remember the sound of your voice". A phrase that will speak to everyone, as our close relationships have turned into relationships through a screen or a phone.

With wonderful vocal harmonies, James wowed us with the comforting warmth and emotional vibes he is able to convey.

As his single "Morning Light" approaches 1,5M streams on Spotify, we can only wish James the same success for "Oceans".

We all know that life can have its ups and downs. But being aware that we are in a down period is rather a good sign, because it means that we can get out of it. "Here's To You", the new single from the wonderful Gina Royale talks about these inner conflicts and the battle sometimes necessary to get rid of them.

Both a formidable introspection and a real motivation to get out of it, the song is written in such a way that it hits hard on your heart: "It's sick how its come to this, Broken pieces I can't fix, I'm sick of making myself so sick ".

Gina Royale had already seduced us in December with "Mr. Lennon" and had done it again at the beginning of April with her previous single "Low". This third visit to IMC is therefore not surprising because Gina masters emotions to perfection.

Her warm and heartwarming voice always gives us unforgettable moments of delicacy and relaxation, and she always does good to your playlists.

Driven by excellent production and superb black and white music video, "Here's To You" is the song you need to take you back up the hill if you feel down.

We can't say that for all the artists that we feature, but we sincerely believe that Gina Royale is a name that you are likely to see everywhere in the next few years. Because Gina doesn't cheat, she is genuine, sincere, pure, and it works. She takes our hearts hostage every time.
