Specific Coast - Nothing Hill

March 31, 2022

We discovered Specific Coast in June 2021 with "Wasn't Love". The seasons have passed and the L.A.-based artist is back with a very intimate new single: "Nothing Hill", released on March 14th.

Pure, honest, this new song is like a page from a diary, where the artist expresses his doubts and his desire to fly on his own.

Like a reset button, the last two years have allowed us all to think about what we really want. For Matt, it was the start of a new era where he realized his music was worth hearing and sharing around the world. But it took a sign of fate to convince him: one of his songs ("Home") appeared in the penultimate episode of the Netflix TV series "Ginny & Georgia"... The song then found itself propelled everywhere and even crossed the Atlantic Ocean to land in the ears of BBC Radio Scotland.

So, to all the hardworking artists, who are not sure if this is going to work: keep it up! You never know what can happen.

About "Nothing Hill", Matt told us: "I wrote it as a reminder to stop living on someone else's timeline. At the time of writing, I had found myself in a toxic relationship."

This is also what happened to me with my mother, who isolated me for more than thirty years from a family which, supposedly, did not exist because she wanted to keep me for herself.

And as Matt said: "You can't wait around and hope someone else will do the right thing. Sometimes it's best to step away from the situation to get a clearer view of how you are valued".

That's exactly what I did. You can't change people. But you can be in control, even if it sometimes seems insurmountable.

That's why this song spoke to me immediately. "Nothing Hill" is like a slap in the face, telling you to move forward. And I really enjoyed this little indie-folk gem, which seems innocent at first, but in the end, refreshes our minds, and we're ready for a fresh start. With this idea in mind, that you have to be in control, as the very last line of the song suggests: "Don't waste my time again".

Very catchy, with honest and natural vocals, this song is a perfect fit for our concept based on powerful emotions. I really like the songs built on this pattern: a gradual crescendo of emotions, which pile up to end up giving you chills. Already more than 15K streams in two weeks (update: and then more than 175K in 5 months) for this little masterpiece, which is proof that many people, without knowing it, share the same story. When a song can reach so many people in such a short time, it's a good sign.

Thank you, Matt, for reminding us that it's never too late to find out who we are.
