Mae Krell - (like) spring

December 02, 2022

We easily remember the first time we heard the sweet voice of New York-based singer-songwriter Mae Krell. This kind of voice is unforgettable. In June 2021, she enchanted us with "Snow". And she's back with "(like) spring"... in December. No, the artist does not live in Australia, but she obviously has a particular relationship with the seasons.

As we said in the introduction, Mae Krell's voice is her entire musical identity. Well beyond the genre, this is what counts most in her musical universe. Because on its own, this voice transports you. Just close your eyes and the magic works.

The artist, describing herself as a "persistent advocate for mental health awareness", part of the LGBTQ+ community, evolves in a very artistic world, made of music, photography, and poetry. And her passion and natural talent for creating art shine through her new single.

Love makes us do things that are sometimes unexpected. Indeed, as Mae Krell confides, she never expected to write a love song one day:

"I fell in love for the first time in February 2020 and by the end of the year, I had followed her to a different state. Although I was away from my friends and family, I still had a feeling of home and belonging- thanks to her. Writing this song originally started as me being fearful and lonely and trying to figure out why, and it led to a love song. For the places I never saw myself being happy in, until I was. For the neighbors and routines I didn't think much about in the moment, until I moved away and started to miss them. And most importantly, it's a love song for the girl who made me realize that I could write one, after thinking that I absolutely never would."

Spending a lot of time outdoors, nature inspires her, and this is perhaps the reason why her songs often have a relationship with nature or the passing of the seasons, such as "garden", a magnificent ballad that is her most streamed song on Spotify to date.

Mae Krell's universe is magical. Her voice brings the sweetness and her words bring the power. All combined with melodies that remain anchored in our minds. This new single, "(like) spring", is no exception to the rule. On a very slow tempo, the declaration of love bewitches us from the sixteenth second: when the voice of Mae Krell begins to distill its poetry in the first verse. By discovering these first lyrics, you understand everything that we have just explained to you previously. Close your eyes, you are there. In the landscape that Mae Krell draws in your ears.

Juggling with words like an acrobat always landing right in the right place on her thread, her very descriptive writing reminds us how much little things have a meaning.

A real little gem, which despite its spring title, enchanted us the first time we listened to it: an autumn day filled with rain and wind.

Reach out to Mae Krell
