Close your eyes, take a breath and let the music flow through you until the weight around your heart lifts. A song for a quiet moment, a song to listen to and not just to play in the background. That’s what "Oh Love", the latest collaboration between Belinda Gillett and Kevin Pierce is - a beautiful testament to what it means to be human, what it means to love.
With her angelic vocals and poetic lyrics, the Suffolk-based artist pulls you into the song's story immediately. "Your breath and mine / They make a sigh / your hands and mine / They make us". There’s no need for many words or a big arrangement, the beauty of this piece of music lies in its simplicity. A fingerpicked guitar sets the foundation only joined by a few pads and a couple of percussive down beats later in the song - creating a stunning atmospheric setting for the beautiful duet harmonies. Both singers sing a verse, but the true goosebump moments are the ones where their voices unite. They aren’t just singing at the same time, they are singing to each other with a deep and honest emotional connection.
"Oh Love" is the first of four singles Gillett plans to release this year building up to a full album in autumn. She establishes a defined and authentic sound with this release that makes me look forward to what comes next, especially knowing that she recorded and mixed it all herself. I always love hearing an artist's vision translate so beautifully when all the energy and love behind their creation is theirs. More of her wonderful creativity shows in the homemade video that accompanies the song, using stop motion. Belinda Gillett is pouring her heart into the music she creates, and it really shows.

Lyrics
Your breath and mine
They make a sigh
your hands and mine
They make us
How are we supposed to know
Here lies all we have
Your head and mine
they make a mess
Your heart and mine
They make dreams
How are we suppose to know
here lies all we've done
Oh life. Oh life
Goes marching on
How are we suppose to know
Here lies all we've got
Oh love. Oh love
Goes marching on
