Ben Brandt’s Story
Songwriting centers me - focuses me like little else. It helps me explore the caverns of my mind and soul, searching out the depths of God, this world, the human experience, and the interactions between them. I love the possibility of what could be, and the creation of something that wasn’t there before.
My first solo EP, Since the Sunlight, came from rediscovering that pathway, allowing myself time for joy and expression. What surfaced were themes of relationship - my marriage, kids, mentors, and my relationship to my own anxiety.
My latest EP, SALVE, is a collection of songs based on the Psalms that I’ve written for my church, meant to be a healing balm to the soul - full of longing, demanding, doubting, questioning, hoping, trusting, resting.
I draw primarily from the musical landscape of Hazlett, Gregory Alan Isakov, S. Carey, Novo Amor, Zach Winters, etc.
I grew up in a little harbor town on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Now I live in the Minneapolis area.
Hope you’re well.
