Anna Smyrk’s Story
It's the sun on your face. A long scream in the car. Laughing until you cry. A hectic dance in the living room. It's tension and release. Grief and joy. Love and pain.
Anna Smyrk's new album is all these things. Her first full length record dives deep into holding joy and pain together. Debuting at #20 on the US speciality radio charts, #15 on Australia's ARIA album charts and being named the heavy rotation feature album on BBC Scotland Roddy Hart's music show, this is a debut to watch.
Produced and mixed by Anna Laverty (Courtney Barnett, Nick Cave), ‘Spectacular Denial’ explores denial in all its forms. Written after Anna's father passed away, the tracks move effortlessly between moments of grief and love, darkness and light, pain and hope. It showcases exceptional songwriting, driving indie-rock sounds, sweet alt-folk confessions, heart-wrenching lyrics and Anna's delicate yet powerful vocals, described as “truly astonishing” by Rolling Stone.
Anna Smyrk is a powerful singer and songmaker from Naarm (Melbourne, Australia). She's had a massive few years, with highlights including playing SXSW in Texas and multiple tours in the US & Europe.
She celebrated the album with a tour of community gardens all around Australia, in a series of shows she calls 'the antidote to the algorithm'.
