At Indie Music Center, we love Indie-Folk. And we love girls. And we love girls who make Indie-Folk. Let’s go to Australia to meet…Anna Smyrk, who has a unique, very folk-oriented musical universe, with just a touch of Irish music. The artist defines herself as a modern-day troubadour. A song inspired by the book “Hope in the Dark“by Rebecca Solnit, an American activist. The context? Current political inaction, often leading to catastrophes rather than positive developments. A rather somber theme, yet beautifully illuminated (hence the title) by the artist, through magnificent vocal harmonies and delightful singing. Incidentally, her sister is featured in the backing vocals. For the video, an abandoned mansion in the Philippines served as the backdrop. A beautiful achievement, both musically and visually.”
