Follow Goodbye Goni
Paris is where you’ll have the best chance of running into the group. Goodbye Goni.
Composed of Enzo, Marc, and Félix, the group owes its name to Goni, a work colleague of Marc, whose first name means “Genesis.” The friends then created a completely fabricated mystical character around Goni, “as if Goni were a God and he himself didn’t know it” Enzo tells us. Then Goni returned to the country and the idea for “Goodbye Goni” was first born on the basis of a song, and the group quickly appropriated the name to make it their new emblem.
This song, “Stonebreaker,” was written by Marc, the band’s singer, in Courtmacsherry, a village on Ireland’s southwest coast. It’s a region steeped in myth. Having explored this legendary coastline a few years ago, from Cork to Tralee, including the Dingle Peninsula where dolphins can be seen playing with boats, we can confirm that the region is an excellent source of artistic inspiration. From rocky cliffs to green meadows dotted with painted sheep, from azure seas to villages with facades that blend all the colors of the rainbow, the region is worth a visit, both visually and spiritually.
Recorded between Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Paris, the track has traveled far and wide before reaching our ears. And from the very first listen, it was clear to us that it was destined to reach yours! With a simple guitar intro, the song’s mystical magic is already at work. And when Marc starts singing, it’s breathtaking.
The musical thrill we’ve been searching for is instantaneous. A truly powerful and expertly controlled voice.
A little hoarse, as if worn by time, travel, and hardship. But you want to hear her tell her story. And with a voice like that, you could say the band has a huge advantage: a strong vocal identity, instantly recognizable. Honestly, a voice like that could sing anything, in any language, and it would still give you chills. The bass and percussion complete a sound that’s more than professional. It’s all been carefully crafted. And it shows.
With a very sixties-seventies vibe, but not unpleasant (far from it!), Goodbye Goni delivers a clean, impeccable performance, without any flaws.
Doors fans will appreciate this. And because they’re such a generous band, they’ve treated us to a magnificent music video, perfectly executed, and which fits the song’s universe 200%.
The group knew how to surround themselves with the right people to create their own universe. With the help of Cyril Dosnon, graphic designer specializing in lettering, andAM Art FilmsThe group has released a professional music video filmed at the Maison Rouge (a deserted art gallery that the group brilliantly occupied), all in the Bastille district. Body painting, calligraphy, contemporary dance—Goodbye Goni expresses itself not only through music. It’s also music to be seen. Cyril, the director, has played with shadows and light with rare finesse.
An album called “Cosmogony” is planned for early 2020 and we can’t wait to hear what’s next!
