Benfield’s Story
Benfield’s voyage into crafting his spellbinding alternative pop-rock songs, as displayed in his addictive debut, began in his young teens; the songs that making up this first offering coming to full fruition after Benfield graduated from university, travelled extensively, then moved back up into the mountains near Brisbane, close to where he grew up.
During that time Benfield began a year of living in solitude on 40 acres of rainforest, with little companionship except for his border collie. This leap into the unknown led to him meeting, and then working for and living with, Australian surveyor and renowned Antarctic explorer, Sydney Kirkby, a man who has explored more of the Antarctic abyss than any other human has before. Living with Kirby and his wife Jude, was a profound experience for Benfield, full of extraordinary tales of unimaginable travels and a truly exceptional life.
Much like Sydney Kirkby’s expeditions, the art Benfield creates, deals in exploration. Benfield ventures far into the textures and layers of spine-tingling melodies, and delves into the rugged peaks and troughs of human experience through his lyrics and vocal delivery.
This Ep displays the vast and magnificent sonic landscapes that
Benfield creates. He worked with Luke Bertoz on production duties (T
ales In Space, Dappled Cities), and also involved a collaboration with Graham Ritchie, who has played and written with Holy Holy, Big Scary, Airling and Japanese Wallpaper.
