A pretty disturbing sensation for us, reading the story of the song. Indeed, I share a huge common point with the artist. You will discover it in these few lines. That's why I like this activity. Sharing and sincerity. This artist, managed to write what I have never managed to write in 6 years (yes, I've also written a few hundred songs).
Warm folk from Australia, and a boat trip over the river, here is the fantastic idea of Wolf Gordon. And here's what he told me:
“I wrote the song whilst on a family holiday last year, we hired a river boat on a river in Australia called "The Murray". The song is really about my girlfriend who I took along on the trip. She's from a farm on the Murray but lives about 8 hours away on the coast with me. She has a wonderful young family out on the farm and really misses them, we get to go out and see them a couple of times a year but it's never enough, and every time we leave she cries because she knows how long it will be before she gets to see them again. It's always really heartbreaking for me to watch because I know that she's crying out of pure heartbreak and not for attention or anything like that.”
Here we are. I live exactly the same situation for 6 years now, and it is true: it's definitely uncomfortable. We live far from her family (more than 6 hours) and she also lives on the coast with me.
Feelings are sometimes confused. It's never easy to feel the sadness of making the person you love most suffer, because at the same time, she suffers because she loves you.
So strange sensation made of both guilt, but also recognition without limits.
The fact that someone can recognize himself in his song is, I think, the culmination of all the work of the artist. And that's where we talk about true sharing. At this point, we share much more than 4 minutes of musical pleasure. We share a story. We share a life. Maybe you too, will recognize your story behind the lyrics of this song.
On the musical side, there is absolutely nothing to say. It's just perfect. With this harmonica tune, you can already imagine yourself on this boat.
Thank you Wolf Gordon for this beautiful trip!
