Quinn Pickering - Grapefruit

Our thoughts about the song :

It's a bit hard to believe that Quinn Pickering is only 20. As his writing is very mature, and the quality of his music is already so high! This young Canadian from New Westminster BC has a huge potential. While you're watching the incredibly professional music video, full of colours and magnificent landscapes, pay attention to the contrasts of the song. Calm verses but powerful choruses, and you'll surprise yourself to sing along from the second chorus. The captivating melody immediately seduced us, as it's probably one of the most catchy songs we've heard this month. Even though the artists sings "It's cold in the city without you", it seems like he perfectly know how to bring warmth in our lives. A promising talent to watch closely this year! Included in our "Indie Pop Anthems" playlist. You can find this playlist on: Spotify / Soundcloud

Quinn Pickering's point of view :

The song is about how memories and emotions can be triggered in the most unexpected of ways. The song had lived in my head for a few years until the faint scent of Grapefruit Rose stepped in and gave me the necessary inspiration to finish the song and close the book on that chapter of my life.

Quinn Pickering is a young singer-songwriter leading a new generation of artists who are redefining the indie music landscape. At the age of 20, he has spent over half his life playing guitar, writing songs, and releasing albums. Now, with the release of his new EP Supernova, Quinn finds his own voice and artistic potential earning a place at the forefront of the genre. Raised in New Westminster, B.C. to a musical family of Métis descent, his interest and passion for music and songwriting led to the formation of his first band, World Is History, when he was just nine years old. While the music was raw, the experience fuelled his love for creating music and performing. Quinn’s first two albums: Losing This War (2016) and Baby Blue (2018) were important stepping stones in his career and serve as a bridge to the lyricism and pop sensibilities that have come to define his matured songwriting. Early in 2020, Quinn signed with Vancouver producer Howard Redekopp’s (Tegan and Sara, Mother Mother) new record label How Weird Sounds to release the five song EP, Supernova. Produced by Howard Redekopp and Stefan Nowarre, Supernova showcases Quinn’s youthful energy, highlights his reverence for classic songwriting, and puts his voice at the centre of it all as a beautifully evocative instrument. Quinn has demonstrated a remarkable gift for connecting with audiences through his songs, and at twenty years old, there's no telling how much more he's capable of. Quinn Pickering’s new EP Supernova will be released on November 13th, 2020.
