Imelda Gabs - Fallen Angel

February 09, 2021

If you have ever watched the Netflix series "Lucifer" then this song might speak to you. And the music video, even more! And honestly, when I heard Imelda Gabs' voice, from the first verse, I was like "Wow. It's the voice of an angel!" Stack in theme.

We've all had weaknesses at some point (especially in 2020), and sometimes you have to fight them and turn them into strength to move forward. This is the whole message of this magnificent song, which mixes a classic side with very high notes and a modern side with a very electronic and atypical rhythm that comes to tickle our ears.

For this single, Imelda pushed the pictorial side to the limit. The universe, both musical and visual, has been worked on down to the smallest detail, and the result is stunning.

I think "Fallen Angel" is really one of the best songs I've heard in the last 20 years. What a beauty!

If you were looking for an angel's voice, and goosebumps, you found them.

Included in our "Indie Pop" playlist, and of course, you will now hear this amazing track on the Indie Music Radio.

Imelda's point of view:

With a mix of Dark Pop and alternative influences, the song is about someone who got pushed down by his/her emotions and struggles with closing a chapter of his/her life, but ends up turning his/her weaknesses into strengths and gets back up.

More about Imelda:

Exploring the depth of Pop music, Imelda Gabs is a Belgian singer, pianist, songwriter, and producer based in Switzerland. With a heavy Jazz background and multiple influences from Classical to Pop, Rock, and Soul music, she likes to mix genres to make her own and bring her audience onto a rich electro-acoustic journey.

She started playing the piano at the early age of 3, quickly followed by the violin and singing a few years later at the Conservatory of Lausanne and the HEMU (CH). While studying these various instruments, she got into songwriting and composition. In 2012 at only 14, she performed some of her original songs for the first time at the prestigious Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels (BE), which also happened to be her last performance with her father, world-renowned jazz pianist Doctor Gabs, who passed away one year later.

She first followed her father's footsteps, performing with german bass player Peter Bockius and American drummer Vic Jewel Pitts. As time went by, her songwriting and performance skills evolved and brought her music and ambitions to another level. 2017 would mark a turning point in her career as she got the opportunity to participate in the prestigious Montreux Jazz Academy, with world-renowned mentors including Marcus Miller, Yaron Herman, and Elina Duni.

She showcased her composition and performing abilities on stage and got invited a few months later at the one and only Montreux Jazz Festival, Auditorium Stravinski, opening for Lianne La Havas and The Roots. Her first and self-produced single Fallen Angel marks a new chapter in her journey and an EP will be presented in 2021.
