Brophy's Law - The Bachelor

Warning, we prefer to warn you, this song is very different from what you are used to hearing on Indie Music Center.

From the intro, you will understand: we are in a resolutely Celtic universe, and we can even say "folk-punk". Admittedly, the lyrics are not as romantic as what we are used to offering you. But they are great. We love story-telling songs because they have a soul.

Just a few days before St. Patrick Day, you'll love the explosive vibe of this song, with sharp lyrics but sweaty honesty. The production is perfect, the melody can only invite you to get up and toast with your friends (well ok, with a mask, it's better than nothing, right?).

Because this is all the power of this song: it will not seduce you with its romantic side (far from it), but with its overflowing energy and authenticity. And you will see that once the song is over, we just want to listen to it again.

Brophy's Law's point of view

Brophy says he wrote this at the age of 18 in the shoes of Shane McGowen heavily influenced by growing up watching the Pogues performing in their glory days. They sang about the drinking holes of London and more drinking, a great recipe for this barroom classic ”The Bachelor”.

A song that paints a picture of a working-class guy who surrenders his life to the devil in the jar avoids marriage and drinks himself insane.

With his Celtic rock outfit, “Brophy’s Law” - based in Copenhagen, but originally from England, Scotland, and the northern-most tip of Denmark, Neil Brophy performs his songs that draw influences from Billy Bragg & Bob Dylan’s singer-songwriter styles of social commentary, Shane McGowen’s Celtic rock, a slice of Paul Weller with a haunt of New Model Army.

Brophy busked & revealed his way around the world for several years hitting countries such as Australia, New Zealand, and the USA honing the craft of a songsmith: a lifestyle that became a Law. His song-writing reflects upon his world travels & his formative years growing up in the rural village of Moulton, Northamptonshire.

For years Brophy’s Law (originally Neil Brophy Band) has been a regular favorite at many DK/UK festivals & culture houses. The band always captures a live audience with their driven Celtic rock sound of catchy melodic folk anthems, crossing the fields of traditional to contemporary folk-rock.

Anaté - Rio

In no time at all, we'll be doing a round trip across the Atlantic. We pick up Anaté in Paris and Delman in Milan and then go to Rio. Certainly, Anaté is an incredible singer, but it is also a group, the fruit of her collaboration with Delman.

With an addicting chorus, "Rio" invites you on a journey.

"Keep on driving there's no stopping for us" she sings in the chorus. After the rather complicated year 2020 that we have all gone through, we all need to escape and "walk backward into the future".

Move on, erase the traces of the past, turn a page. Here is the spirit of this jewel of lightness, which will be a very good travel companion if you want to get away from it all. Simple, light, the track will fit perfectly into your Road Trip playlists.

Anaté's point of view

It was written when I was in Rio de Janeiro. It's a song about life, about appreciating every moment, every person we met, every place we've seen. It invites us to stop waiting for a divine redemption and start living now because really that's all we've got.

More about Anaté

Anaté is a collaboration between singer & songwriter Anate and producer Delman. Currently based in Paris and Milan, the duo met in Bruxelles in early 2019 and immediately started writing together. Their musical style is defined by a downtempo influence, yet it covers a variety of genres. Influences recognizable in their music include iconic bands such as Hooverphonic, Massive Attack, and Morcheeba on the production side, while vocal melodies and harmonies remind of artists such as Sade, Dido, and Amy Lee.
