Dominic Romano & Tall Acre - Framework

June 14, 2024

After almost 2000 songs shared with you, my dear readers, I must admit that it becomes difficult for artists to surprise me. And yet! I am like you, I live the same life experiences, and it has its share of surprises. And there couldn't have been a more relatable song at this precise moment in my life than this one.

Indeed, the talented singer-songwriter and producer Dominic Romano teamed up with Tall Acre, a fantastic artist I've been watching secretly for a few weeks. The result of this collaboration is an indie-folk ballad full of softness and delicacy, which will probably speak to you too.

As Dominic tells us, this song is "about love’s enduring power and the beauty of building a life together, captured within the narrative framework of a new house". If you have followed my adventures (thanks to the IMC Rewind podcast), you might know that I bought a house in the middle of the marshes near the ocean with the love of my life, who was a listener of my indie music radio. And my most faithful listener is currently seeing her belly grow, a precursor to a gift that will be delivered to us in December.

So yes, when I heard the lyrics: "There’s enough of this empty space / A framework to build our home / Change comes in the best way / With you", I thought the song was speaking to us. And you might be in the same situation. But when every line speaks to you, the song begins to belong to you: "We’re expanding to something new / Building up stone by stone"... And that's the paradox that indie artists live with, and it's what I keep reminding them: once the song is released, it no longer belongs to them, it belongs to their audience. And for me, the song couldn't have come at a better time than this. And now that it's out, it's going to become my "Framework" and my official soundtrack for the coming months!

The two artists worked remotely, thanks to the magic of the internet that easily connects the UK and the US to create this timeless and relatable gem with warm vocal harmonies. It almost makes you want to return to winter to enjoy this delicate cocoon of sweetness by the fire. But wait! Some of you, I know, live in the Southern Hemisphere and are just enjoying a winter that's perfect for this kind of song. So enjoy it for us!

Structurally, the song gains intensity with the bridge and these beautiful background vocals that transport you to a cloud of sincerity and sweetness. The intensity grows even more during the final chorus, where the background vocals take up even more space to carry us to the heights of love. Ah, love. It's crazy, it sweeps you away, and it envelops you without you even realizing it, thanks to masterpieces like this. And here you have the perfect song for your wedding's first dance. Are we getting a bit "cheesy" at IMC? Yes, maybe a little, but we assume!
