Abby Malloy - And Don't Forget (To Love)

December 02, 2020

It is true that we never featured Christian artists, because we always tried to stay neutral in everything we do for 15 years. But Abby Malloy really moved us deeply. And we can say that she has the voice of an angel. Reminding of the vocal talent of an artist we love here: Allison Leah. Abby writes with her heart, guided by her faith, and gives us on this new single a brilliant performance. Even if the writing context was not the happiest (read below), Abby knew how to face her emotions, and only draws the positive from her misadventures. After everything we've been through this year, we all need positive messages, motivation, and encouragement. And "Don't Forget (To Love)" is a wonderful vector of good humor, hope, and love. With this carefully written, sung, and produced gem, Abby is like a ray of light.

Included in our "Indie Pop" playlist, and of course, you will now hear this amazing track on the Indie Music Radio.

Abby's point of view :

"And Don't Forget (To Love)" was written in a time of grief over the sudden loss of my 5-week-old niece, Blakely. Her life was short, but much like the song, she taught me so much about love and joy. Before she was born, I asked my own aunts how I could be a good aunt to Blakely, and their advice was turned into the lines that you hear in this song. The little moments, the unexpected, and the mundane moments of life are the most significant to be present for. The instrumental part of the song at around 2:24 is a musical representation of a previous line that states "wish for simplicity because life is a million symphonies competing for the listener's time." My desire is for this song to stir up hope and love inside of people, and that it would start a movement of contagious expressions of love for one another.

Biography :

Abby started playing music at the age of 4, started writing her own music in the 4th grade, and has now recorded with multiple big name artists in the Christian music industry (Maverick City, Brandon Lake, and live recordings with We The Kingdom, Mandisa, Leeland Worship, Dante Bowe, Sinach, and more). Though not all of her songs contain blatant Christian themes, the message is always positive, uplifting, and written to inspire and encourage the listener. After attending Berklee College of Music in the Fall of 2015 and studying Audio Engineering, she moved to Missouri and pursued music while attending the University of Missouri. During that time she joined a campus ministry as well as ministry leadership, and mentored college girls for 3 years, helping them through the struggles of a college campus as well as their personal spiritual growth. Her musical career started progressing in the end of 2018, when she felt a kind of fire light inside of her to record songs that she had written during her time in college. Her friends had heard these songs and had already told her they helped them through certain situations, so she wanted to expand her audience. She recorded her first album "Breathe" in the beginning of 2019. That album was released in August of 2019, and was a catalyst for a Fall/Winter filled with festivals, conferences, and an East Coast Tour that lasted through the month of January. When she was on tour she had a lot of down-time, and spent her time writing the rest of her upcoming sophomore album "Light in the Darkness." The theme of this new album is purely love - and that love is what lightens the darkest of places. She lost her 5-week-old niece, Blakely, in October of 2019, and used music to navigate her grief. This album mainly focuses around God's love for us and how He leads us out of the darkest of places, and Abby hopes this new album will help others recognize that God is still with them when they feel the loneliest, the darkest, and the most hopeless. This new album is set to release in February 2021, as well as a third album and video series entitled: "Light in the Darkness: Live in New York."
