Have you ever found yourself in a dead-end? As if your future is blocked? Or drowned in the fog?
Tejas went through some complicated times in his life, and that made him stronger. You will learn more below, as the artist confided in us. Fortunately, the music got there, and it's quite possible that it helped him out.
This song is like hope, to make us realize that even after the darkest days, there is still light somewhere.
"I wanna thank you 'cause you saved me", sings Tejas in the second verse. You never get out of difficulties without help. Whether for his family or for his guitar, these thanks come from his heart, and you can hear it.
The artist touched us with his sincere interpretation, and his voice alone is enough to convey goosebumps. The production, very careful, (not surprising since Tejas Singh is also a mixing engineer), leaves no room for imperfections. The voice is perfectly mastered and very comfortable, the melody is catchy. For me, this song has only positive points.
There is only one detail that saddens me, even if I keep telling you that the numbers never reflect reality: its number of monthly listeners on Spotify, and I know that you, fellow readers, will help us a little :)
Do not hesitate to share this song and to follow this artist on all his social media, he deserves it!
Also, I would advise you to listen to his most recent release, "Muted Love", which is just as fantastic.
Of course, "Good Years" has been included in our "Indie Pop" Spotify playlist.
And the live take also worth it:
Tejas Singh's point of view
In the midst of my darkest days of addiction, I stopped playing and even listening to music. I sold all of my recording equipment and guitars, except one. Eventually, I found myself in rehab and once the fog began to clear, I started to yearn for music again. My family brought my acoustic guitar to the treatment center and I began to play a few hours every day, eventually writing a few songs. "Good Years" was the first one.
More specifically: It's about my time in a long-term relationship while living in New York City, how I saw myself during that time, and realizing, years later, that it was not an accurate appraisal.
More broadly: It's also about the realization that all experiences, seemingly turbulent on the surface, can be positive touchstones for change if looked at from a different perspective.
About the writing and recording process, I started with acoustic guitar and vocals. This is generally how I start all my songs; chord progressions and melodies. Soon after, I started using a loop pedal in my live sets and that's how I worked out the other guitar parts. My producer, Devin Spear @Exhale Recording, and I expanded on these ideas in the studio, adding harmony and drums to complete a more filled-out studio recording.
