Lissie is an artist born in Illinois, and she has Swedish roots on her mother's side. I'm not going to hide it from you, I'm a Lissie fan. I even have two CDs of her in my little collection of 2000 records: "Catching a Tiger" and "Castles". I discovered Lissie ten years ago when I heard her cover of "Go Your Own Way" in the movie "Safe Haven". Instant crush and goosebumps all over my body. I then listened to her discography a bit and that's how I find myself having CDs by this wonderful artist. I also discovered that she appears on 4 tracks of an album by Snow Patrol, which is also one of my favorite bands ever. Small world, uh?
So I can tell you that when I saw her name in my submissions queue, I jumped for joy for the first time. Then a second time when I listened to the song and I felt the same feeling as when I discovered the artist: immense emotions.
"Sad" is a song where the artist has mixed feelings, between love and anger, wishing her lover to be sad, now that their story is over. With a heady melody, which does not leave you for hours, Lissie spells out very precise writing, where each line contains contrasting emotions. Lissie is lucky to be one of those artists with a recognizable voice among a thousand, like Adele or Dido. A strong vocal identity that gives her songs a unique and precious side.
What is quite amazing is that Lissie says "you dropped that bomb" without realizing that with this song, she too has just dropped a bomb! Listening to a song by Lissie is like landing on an airstrip having forgotten to extend the landing gear: you never know how it will end, but the emotions will be strong, whatever happens.
Reach out to Lissie
