Grace Day - Bordeaux

March 10, 2021

I will not hide from you that seeing the name of the big city closest to me caught my eye.

When I heard Grace Day's voice, I was "touched by Grace", no joke. What a pleasure for the ears!

The artist decided to talk about the European cities that marked her, in her EP, and Bordeaux is part of the lot since she studied there. Bordeaux is only a 90-minute drive from home, and we went there again less than a week ago. This world is really small sometimes. It's even quite impressive that an artist based in Nashville talks about Bordeaux. But it is true that the city is world-famous for its wine (even if you will never find vineyards in Bordeaux, but rather in the surroundings).

What seduced me in "Bordeaux", the song, and not the wine, is the fluidity. Everything is light, obvious, and full of light.

Grace's voice is more pleasing to the ears than any wine on the palate.

Whether we are talking about a city or a person, "Bordeaux" is a declaration of love "par excellence" as we say in French: "I still think about you" sings Grace, with disconcerting ease. Singing is for her a gift from heaven. She doesn't force herself. Everything comes naturally.

"I see a bottle of Bordeaux I wish that we were drinking on a balcony". You won't find it more romantic.

In the radio world, which I have frequented for almost 20 years, it is always said that a song has every chance of becoming a hit if a catchy chorus comes before the 40 seconds mark. This is the case with "Bordeaux". We wish Grace Day all the best and can't wait to hear the EP in its entirety.

Grace Day's point of view

"Bordeaux" is the second single from an EP I'm planning to release in the summer called "Cities." The EP will celebrate wanderlust and escapism through a tale of 5 European cities.

"Bordeaux" is a wistful reflection on a transient summer romance in a beautiful French city. Heavily inspired by Israeli artist Dennis Lloyd, the song borrows from his hypnotic electro sound (And even includes a trumpet solo!)

Lyrically, however, the song takes the Nashville narrative approach to storytelling.

More about Grace Day

Grace Day is a singer-songwriter from Ireland’s western seaboard. She’s been performing and releasing music since 2016, first making waves with her 2018 single ‘Change Your Mind’ which made it to the Irish iTunes dance charts top 10. Described by Hot Press Magazine as “Scream-along material”, the track was a hit on the Irish airwaves. Grace made a foray into the Prog House scene in 2017, teaming up with Irish producer Tommy Conway on the track ‘Release Me’.

Another close collaborator has been Derry-based DJ Louise DaCosta, and the pair came together to create the summer-infused dance anthems ‘Free’ and ‘LA Magic’. Grace now lives in Nashville, TN, where she has been busy experimenting with and across different genres: electronic, indie pop, country, or some amalgamation therein. A constant in Grace’s music, however, remains her confessionally-poetic lyricism and acoustic guitar.

When she’s not making her own music, Grace is working for Tunecore helping other indie artists on their journey. As a follow-up to her recent release Barcelona, Bordeaux is the second single from Day's upcoming EP ‘Cities.’ As something of a wanderer, Day has always found her main inspiration to come from places. Heavily inspired by Dennis Lloyd's hypnotic electro-pop, Bordeaux whisks the listener away to one of France’s most romantic cities for a brief moment in time.

Grace plans to release her first EP in summer 2021: ‘Cities’, a mediation on and celebration of five different European cities.
