There aren't many songs that talk about the attachment you can have to a place. You know, when all your memories are here, with your friends. Where you grew up and where you learned a lot.

I got this feeling of nostalgia in 2011 in the song of the Finnish band Sunrise Avenue, "Hollywood Hills". And since then, I have never felt the same nostalgia to the point of getting chills.

Until Nico Rivers came, a little guy from Boston, who literally left me speechless.

"Patient Harbor" evokes precisely this particular affection one can have for a place haunted by memories, the laughter of your friends, and endless evenings. And the more the song progresses, the stronger the emotion, until a magnificent final part.

"Our lives are written on these streets and buried in the ground" is the sentence that gave me the chills. There is in Nico Rivers an innate talent for writing, it is undeniable! What initially seems to be an acoustic indie-folk ballad, becomes an emotional jewel, sublimated by a marvelous violin and effective percussions. The artist talks about the evening of July 3 at the start of the song. We can actually compare the end of the song to fireworks.

Even though the song might speak to many of you because we all have our "Patient Harbor", the city the artist conjures up is real, as he told us:

"This is the opening track off my upcoming record, Masquerade of Lullabies. Patient Harbor is a song about the town I grew up in, Marshfield, MA, and the bonds I made with childhood friends who have remained constant throughout my life. The older I get, the more rare I learn these types of friendships are. This song was written to celebrate those bonds."

Enjoy your friends, enjoy everything you have. The past 18 months have shown us how precious these simple and essential things are. Only real bonds can withstand this kind of storm.

Lyrics

Hidden in plain sight my memory's alright but I couldn't find my way back

I followed the sound but got lost in the crowd as the sky lit up, under attack

It was the 3rd of July we were all getting high on the beach watching the chemicals react

Some how (that's where) I found you, I'd been carrying your shoes, wonder how long that picture will last

One day it'll be all that I have

Our lives are written on these streets

and buried in the ground

I'm always coming back to you

That voice is telling me to leave

Each time I make it out

I'm always coming back to you

Now I'm alone in the basement where we traded faces with the monsters we wanted to be

took it to the fairgrounds (all the terrible sounds/spreading the truth that we found), we were screaming so loud that the floor gave out under our feet

I couldn't take it, swore I could make it out where vultures pick the bones of defeat

Halfway cross the world, I still felt the pull, calling back to the northeast

Our lives are written on these streets

and buried in the ground

I'm always coming back to you

That voice is telling me to leave

Each time I make it out

I'm always coming back to you

The paths have changed

but the bond is the same

tethered and true

weathered and bruised

showing the signs of age

We may be insane

to carry on this way

tethered and true

weathered and bruised

Our lives are written on these streets

and buried in the ground

I'm always coming back to you

That voice is telling me to leave

Each time I make it out

I'm always coming back to you

Our lives are written on these streets

and buried in the ground

I'm always coming back to you

That voice is telling me to leave
