From the first seconds, when I heard Leon Stanford's voice, I was amazed. When I heard the chorus, I immediately thought of Lewis Capaldi, vocally first, and then because of the use of the piano as a main instrument. But as the song progressed, around 1:40, I started to notice some noticeable differences. The voice is not that similar in fact. It's simply because our brain is used to making comparisons with what it already knows. And besides, I don't really like comparisons. That's why I chose to present Leon in the Indie Folk category, rather than Indie Pop. For his more authentic roots and sincere talent than the tangy world of pop. Well, when Leon Stanford's voice rises in the treble, we realize that he has a real vocal identity, very strong, and above all, perfectly controlled! And I'm not saying it to flatter the artist. But as a specialist in musical emotions for almost 20 years, I can tell you that there aren't many voices that can give me chills. And Leon is one of them. On the writing side, we are on pure poetry, and creative art. A true genius of writing who handles words, their rhythm, their meaning, and who gives life to thoughts. "Plan B" can be found on the "Fear is Heavy" EP. And for a first release, we can only salute the incredible quality of his work. The other songs are also worth listening to, and an EP is fast to listen to, so take advantage of it, check it out!
Plan B is now included in our "Indie Folk" playlist, and of course, you will now hear this amazing track on the Indie Music Radio.
Leon Stanford's point of view :
Plan B is about my love / hate relationship with being a musician. As someone who's been in a band for a good few years before my solo project, I have dealt with my fair share of hope / failure and reviews but there's never really been a Plan B. I guess music was my first love and like many musicians and people in the arts I feel like there has been times where I have exhausted myself whilst put everything on record to be looked past. Despite how much it tears you apart and leaves you questioning and redefining who you are, we always find we can never give up the things and ones we love the most that keep us chasing and on our toes till the end.
