Jacko Hooper - This Was The Earth

March 12, 2021

Time flies. Already 3 months since "Muttered Words", a song that had deeply marked us, at the end of 2020. Jacko Hooper returns with this new single, released today. Touching, captivating, and sometimes disconcerting.

The song, perfectly written by this genius of words, does not particularly contain a real concept or a true story. Because Jacko prefers that everyone interprets it in their own way, a bit like The Satellite Station told us. We love these kinds of artists who create stories that the listener can then appropriate as they please. These are among the most creative. Because indeed: what could be simpler than telling a trivial story that everyone can cling to? It's easy, and it's been done thousands of times. But letting the audience make their own story is even better.

In any case, if you don't feel comfortable with the world's actual situation, Jacko doesn't. "The world is so scary, I only live inside my head The world is so scary, I'm only inside of my head".

In a music video where the contrast between darkness and light reigns, inhabited by animal mascots, the artist is bleeding from the ear. Again, this is only his own interpretation of the meaning. And it's up to you to make your own.

Whether musically or visually, Jacko Hooper leaves nothing to chance, and every detail is worked with great attention. We've known him for years now, but yet, with each new release: we are amazed. Always in constant evolution, the artist is gradually gaining streams, and above all, demonstrates that the quality of his music is up to what is expected of an independent artist: honest, and sincere.

Included in our "Indie Folk" playlist, and of course.

Jacko Hooper's point of view

I don’t feel that the original story of why I wrote the song is necessarily the most important thing, I think the fact people can listen to it and all of a sudden it becomes a different story with a totally different meaning is the best thing of all, to be able to connect to it people need it to be their story, not mine.

More about Jacko Hooper

Jacko Hooper is a singer-songwriter from Brighton, UK, who combines mesmerizing soulful vocals, beautiful guitar, and achingly honest words by seeking influence from the things around him that mean the most. Originally writing in the comfort of his bedroom with just the four walls around him to judge, he first began to venture out after a fortuitous video was filmed by a close friend and uploaded onto YouTube.

This led to the demand for him to head out and start playing shows around the UK to his ever-growing and committed following. Jacko quickly caught the eye of French videographer Rod Maurice of Le Hiboo who invited him to Paris to headline the Café De Lanse, quickly followed by a short European tour.

Jacko’s tour history includes performances with James Blunt, Michael Kiwanuka, Freya Ridings, Amber Run, and many more. Jacko also runs one of the South Coasts leading independent promotions companies and boutique record labels; Folklore Sessions and has released records with Bess Atwell, George Ogilvie, Oktoba, and others.
