Our thoughts

We discovered the North Carolina-based band The Collection in February 2022 with "Won't Stop Yet". 3 years later, here's a pleasant surprise in our submissions inbox: David, the frontman, has also launched a solo project that is more personal and more connected to his musical aspirations. And boom, here he is with Nettwerk, our favorite indie label with whom we have enjoyed working for years because their catalog of artists is incredible. We are thrilled that David has joined this list of fabulous talent! It's well deserved!

And so here is "Medication - Deserve To Be Well," his latest single. In February 2022, we drew a parallel with Thomas LaVine simply because of the location, as Thomas is also in North Carolina. This time, let's allow ourselves to draw a slight parallel, but with his brother, Stephen LaVine. Yes, David Wimbish's voice is quite close to Stephen's. And since they are geographically close, it would be fun if these two geniuses shared a song one day. The idea is launched.

Let's get back to our song of the day. Encouraging, to say the least, it acts as a crutch for anyone going through a complicated period and lacking self-confidence to get back on their feet. A folk-pop anthem somewhat in the style of Noah Kahan, this track benefits from an incredible falsetto in the vocals and a melody that is more than catchy. The production, up to David Wimbish's usual standards, is wonderfully professional, and you'll quickly find yourself singing along. A new favorite to add to your playlist quickly.
We would also like to extend our congratulations to David, who became a happy father last week.

A bit more about David Wimbish & The Collection

The Collection derives an inimitable musical language from the unbreakable bond between its members. Fronted by David Wimbish, the Saxapahaw, NC-based band places just as much emphasis on interpersonal community and relationships as it does on the music itself. Because of this, the band have generated tens of millions of streams, logged tens of thousands of miles on the road, earned praise from American Songwriter, Glide, Parade, and more, and landed on NPR Tiny Desk Judges’ Picks - all before signing their first record deal with Nettwerk Music Group in 2022. Additionally, The Collection have developed a devout fan base thanks in part to their renowned rowdy performances. They have lit up festival stages and crisscrossed the country with The Oh Hellos, RIPE,Tall Heights, and Sammy Rae & The Friends, to name a few. Just this past January, the six-piece released their boldest EP, How to Survive an Ending, emanating love and positivity in typical The Collection fashion.

Lyrics

I was scared of what it meant
If I needed medicine
Just to feel like me again
And keep my demons in
Every now and then
‘Cause I remember when I thrived
Now I’m just trying to survive
It’s like I tripped and took at dive
Into another life
That doesn’t feel like mine

But now I’m tired of sitting aimless and drifting
Trying to turn off the lights
And only taking off my clothes far from the windows
Keeping away from your sight

And now I’m dropping the weight of the earth
Just long enough to give me a rebirth
‘Cause I deserve to be well
Yeah, I deserve to be well
And maybe I do not have enough strength
For more than a couple of steps in a day
But I deserve to be well
Yeah, I deserve to be well
I’m climbing up out of this hell

I’ve been fogging up the glass
While the thunder starts to crash
But the storm has never passed
So, if I am gonna last
I’ve gotta get out fast

And I am hungry and restless, dreaming of exits
Climbing the gates of my mind
And I am thinking of futures, reaching for sutures
Trying to reclaim my time

And now I’m dropping the weight of the earth
Just long enough to give me a rebirth
‘Cause I deserve to be well
Yeah, I deserve to be well
And maybe I do not have enough strength
For more than a couple of steps in a day
But I deserve to be well
Yeah, I deserve to be well
I’m climbing up out of this hell

And growing old and growing up
Being alone without being stuck
Lost control, fall in love
Making my way and my own luck

Dropping the weight of the earth
Just long enough to give me a rebirth
‘Cause I deserve to be well
Yeah, I deserve to be well
And maybe I do not have enough strength
For more than a couple of steps in a day
But I deserve to be well
Hmm, I deserve to be well
I’m climbing up out of this hell
I’m climbing up out of this hell
I’m climbing up out of this hell
