Our thoughts

We first discovered South African artist Brandon Grant back in December 2023 with the amazing song "With You".

Now he’s back on IMC with an absolutely stunning song.

From the writing (seriously, how beautiful is "Wandering on / The waves always reach the shore / Like currents of fate / Dictate what’s worth fighting for"?) to the way it’s performed, with a voice that pulls you right into an emotional swirl thanks to those flawless harmonies, "Oceans" is going to flood you with feelings. No escape.

The song comes from his freshly released album "Knowing" (which you should totally check out, too), and "Oceans" plunges us (if you’ll allow us another bad pun) deep into a certain kind of melancholy. The kind that makes you wonder if what you have is enough. Or if we should stop chasing pointless stuff all the time.

It’s a great excuse to spend some time with yourself and your thoughts, something that’s getting harder and harder to do these days, right?

Brandon Grant's take on "Oceans"

This song is one of my favourite songs from my debut album. It's a song about not forcing life, but rather letting go and going with the natural flow of it. Letting life take you where you're supposed to go. Naturally, I feel that this allows us to live the life we're meant to live. Not one we think we should be living, or a life we think others want us to live.

Lyrics

I’ve been holding
On to everything
Without knowing
The weight I’m carrying

And If I let go
Do I fall?
And risk losing it all
They say if I let go
Of my mind
Then home is what I’ll find

Like the oceans
Keep flowing
With nowhere to go
It’s alright
They know that
They’re always at home
Always at home

Wandering on
The waves always reach the shore
Like currents of fate
Dictate what’s worth fighting for

You see
The things that I’m looking for
Are free
But I’ll have to lose it all

Like the oceans
Keep flowing
With nowhere to go
It’s alright
They know that
They’re always at home
Always at home

Storms come
and the waves start to grow
Dive deep
All is calm down below
Clouds are grey
But the sun’s up above
Trust the fates
Sending out lonely doves

Like the oceans
Keep flowing
With nowhere to go
It’s alright
They know that
They’re always at home
Always at home
