In December 2023, when we first wrote about Ben Drysdale, we concluded our article with "this may be Ben Drysdale's first feature on IMC but it won't be the last, that's for sure!". And we weren't wrong.
The Australian artist is back with a poignant new single that addresses the theme of suicide. What to do when a loved one finds themselves having dark thoughts? What should we tell them to prevent them from taking action? This song is the perfect answer to these tricky questions.
With this second single, Ben's goal is to raise money and awareness for suicide prevention. Better yet: the song is available on BandCamp and 50% of proceeds from the sales will be donated to suicide prevention! You therefore have the power to help change things on a subject that is too often put aside.
Inspired by a true story, which Ben experienced with one of his friends, finding himself hanging on the phone at midnight to prevent him from making an irreparable mistake. 3000 lives are lost each year in Australia alone because these desperate people have had no one to listen to them and, above all, to reason with them. This is of course 3,000 too many lives that could have been saved. And through this release, the artist hopes to save more.
With lyrics that we would all like to hear when nothing is going right, and an omnipresent piano, the song contrasts completely with his previous release, a joyful indie-folk track. Proof that the artist is at ease with all musical people, with all instruments, and that he deserves to be known. We've all experienced very dark times, or known someone who has, and this song is relatable for so many people! If you have this kind of case in your entourage, it is high time to take the time to talk to him and why not, to make him listen to this song, which with its captivating piano and warm vocals, will be able to change his mind.
Yes, the vocal performance here is impressive, and the high notes of the chorus would make any passerby on the street stop and take the time to listen. We often tell you, the power of music is infinite.
