It would not be farfetched to call 2020 the year of loneliness, and this extends to 2021 with many countries that are still in lockdown. More people than ever were forced to be isolated from the rest of the world. Without that tether to the real world, it got really easy to lose yourself a little. But music has been one thing that has helped many of us to find our way back home - which brings me to Amy FitzGerald's new single „Falling Star“.

It’s a song that was written during lockdown to put that feeling of isolation into words “Can anybody see me? Is anybody listening? Can anybody show me the way?“. It comes from a personal place and reaches you with comforting honesty. In the artist's words „The message of this song is that even when you feel totally alone, you never really are, and I hope that it connects with people.“ The song definitely achieves that, it creates an authentic connection through its story.

FitzGerald's vocals create a vulnerable and yet confident feeling that captures you from the very first line. A lovely piano lays the foundation for this ballad that doesn’t need a big arrangement to pull you into its dreamy soundscape. The simplicity of the instrumentation gives the song an intimate feeling, it invites you to look inward and find yourself between the lines.

Compared to the London-based singer's previous release „Happy“ (which is also gorgeous, do listen to it if you can), the new single explores a more delicate facet of her artistry. „Falling Star“ is everything we could ask of a ballad: touching, personal, and absolutely stunning.
