Do you like strong emotions? Do you love remarkably well-written songs? You will fall for this new single from All The Queen's Horses, an artist from Ireland, which literally left us speechless.
Please don't listen to this song while you're cooking, or keeping an eye on a TV screen or whatever. Take a break and take some time just for yourself. Lie on your bed, or your sofa, pump up the volume of your headphones and close your eyes. Then press "Play". Because this song... is really special! And it deserves all your attention. We promise, you won't regret it.
We receive hundreds and hundreds of submissions and I have to admit this one is of exceptional quality. It's quite hard for an artist to stand out. Because millions of tracks are uploaded to Spotify every day. But only hard work pays off.
And the songwriting work of Sean Murphy, our artist of the day, is absolutely brilliant. Like a circus performer juggling balls, Sean juggles words, every word has its place and every word has a very strong impact.
If you add to that the singer's incredible voice, which lets even the slightest of his emotions shine through, even the most buried ones, you have an emotional cocktail powerful enough to trigger the thrill.
And Sean's talent has already been noticed, especially last May, during the International Songwriting competition. With a jury made up of Coldplay, Keane, Dua Lipa, Fleet Foxes, and Tom Waits, our Irishman offered himself the luxury ... of winning. And it was not a given, because the contest was made of 26,000 entries from 158 countries, but he made it.
If you're a singer-songwriter reading this: never give up. I've said it enough, but you will need dozens, maybe even hundreds of songs. Because among all these songs, there's THE ONE.
We have just had two terrible years, filled with change and questioning. And the song explores the resistance that one can have in the face of the trials of life, as the seasons follow one another, as the artist said: "The stage is set with two people that went through fairly rough times while they were staying in Drury Road in Dublin and time and rolling with the punches made them came out stronger. One of them explaining to the other how nothing stays the same and you get on with it and things will change."
The artist describes "The Troubled Tears of Drury Road" as "a song of retrospect and the benefit of hindsight and looking back at how everything kind of changes just like the seasons." And we loved the circumstances that led him to write this song: "I wrote this on the tube in London and everytime we came out of a tunnel the weather kept changing".
Very colorful, playing with the contrasts between darkness and ray of light, despair and hope, the artist aligns words like a great master of poetry. The exercise is successful.
This gem has been added to our "Fresh Indie" Spotify playlist, make sure you follow this playlist below to discover incredible new music every day.

Lyrics
The changing of the seasons can be worse for the better
A simple life lesson condensed in a letter
Ava my dear have your cloth made to measure, for the seasons bring changeable weather
Sing with the choir and sing me a note, you’ll swim through the seasons that keep you afloat, stay there for months dear, in your chesterfield coat, I might show you the stars you’re not seeing.
The winter of our discontent is stained in the trees, I’ll show you the scars if you lie next to me, Spring mends your balance and mends all your trees and tie’s ropes when you’re scaffolding’s swaying.
The troubled tears of Drury Road made us ten feet tall
The Spring will bring the brightness back after the darkness falls
Our resolve is stronger dear with our backs against the wall
And like a a seasons will rise, another will fall
It’s hard to imagine where were you going
Could you still look in and see the winds blowing
Forlorn and frosty and nothing is growing
But I don’t think they’d let you be going
You didn’t need to win every single argument, agree to disagree, nothing’s a tournament. No one kept score, and no results were permanent. The change winds don’t need to be turbulent.
The troubled tears of Drury Road made us ten feet tall
The Spring will bring the brightness back after the darkness falls
Our resolve is stronger dear with our backs against the wall
And like a a seasons will rise, another will fall
When you cried with someone it was better than alone
You made peace with your past and the present atoned
You didn’t compare others you journeyed alone
You were plenty and willing and able
Time was a healer and you’d wait in the line
It was a hard thing to do to give time the time
Patience is a virtue and impatience a crime
Your summer was florid and bravely
You’re royal and regal don’t spend your time crying
Get busy living or get busy dying
Life is too short and winter’s too trying
So tie up the ropes you’re untying
The troubled tears of Drury Road made us ten feet tall
The Spring will bring the brightness back after the darkness falls
Our resolve is stronger dear with our backs against the wall
And like a a seasons will rise, another will fall
