Gabriel Benedek - Free

Sometimes you need a break. To escape by the sea, with the sound of the waves and the cry of seagulls as the only soundscape. A moment of disconnection. Just for you. Alone with yourself and your thoughts, for a few hours. We sometimes believe that our situation is not enviable. Or we don't feel in the right place. These times of disconnection are then essential to realize that in fact... we already have everything we want.

As Gabriel confides, "this song is about choosing happiness over money, which is a theme I think resonates particularly strongly with a wide audience at this time."

This is what "Free", the new single from Gabriel Benedek, is all about. And one of the lines particularly resonated with us: "Just to find out all I needed was you". I, Niko, did the same. I left my job. I created my own job and Covid came to ruin all my plans. Now I don't have anything left but IMC and my lover. And I realize that's what I hold most precious.

Gabriel Benedek is based in Switzerland. A beautiful country that remains away from everything, by its neutrality, but also by the incredible beauty of its landscapes. Although the opportunity to be able to disconnect is very present in Switzerland, we think you can do it wherever you are.

With Irish and Hungarian roots, we can say that Gabriel is simply European. It was only at the age of 10 that he discovered music thanks to the piano, and he grew up with Jack Jonshon and the RHCP. Like me. That's why I recognize myself a lot in his music. Cause you can hear and feel these influences.

It was last year that Gabriel's career took a turn when his single "Leila" went viral on Instagram and surpassed one million views. And that kind of accomplishment is the best fuel for a musician. Now he is back, full of energy, and "Free" offers us a breath of fresh air in this somewhat saturated world. I haven't turned on the TV for several days because seeing the situation of these poor people under the bombardments is quite heartbreaking. So songs like this allow you to escape and think about something else.

With disconcerting vocal ease, Gabriel draws a scene in your mind. All you have to do is close your eyes and let yourself be lulled by this super catchy chorus and shake your head. Handling all the instruments to perfection, the artist invites us to travel, to let go. And it works wonderfully well.

Reach out to Gabriel Benedek
