If there is one artist I know well, it's Nathaniel Paul. Indeed, we have already featured his work four times, since he is half of The Bergamot band, with his wife Jillian. More than a year after his first appearance on Indie Music Center, Nathaniel has come a long way since then. And he notably embarked on a parallel solo project. And, although I never doubted it, it's obviously a success. He sent us his new single "songbird", a bit like a cry for hope after everything the world has been through in 2020. A simple discussion with an old man gave birth to this song, which comforts us and makes us understand that there is still things to build. "I want to try again, fly again", as Nathaniel sings in the chorus. A positive message, in a wonderful and relaxing bedroom pop atmosphere, with great vocal harmonies. Rest assured, even if he's half of The Bergamot, he didn't put only half of his talent in this track. On the contrary. For me, Nathaniel is always one stroke of genius ahead. And this song is proof of that. Accompanied by a light music video that makes you want to escape, "songbird" amazes and surprises with its lightness and softness. Like a delicious chocolate eaten slowly, with passion and delicacy. The holidays are over, but would you have some chocolate with us again?

Nathaniel's point of view :

During quarantine, I had to make a trip to the grocery store. I met an elderly man who struck up a conversation with me. We almost seemed to be kindred spirits. He began the conversation with “Life is hard when you outlive all the ones you love.” It seemed like a bit of a quick start to a conversation, but I could tell he just needed someone to talk to. After talking for a while, I felt this sense that he had that the world at large had forgotten about him. But, he had created a plan to travel the world on a train he had read about. He could work on the train and it would take him across the world. He was amidst planning his way out. “songbird” was a direct inspiration from that moment. This idea of life after all that you love and care for is gone. His story resonated with me in the way that I feel from COVID taking away so many small businesses - so many dreams from all of us. But what do we do now? Where do we go from here? “songbird” hopes to take you to a place of hope amidst a looming dark shadow cast over the world.

Biography :

Nathaniel Paul is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter. He was born in Michigan City, IN and began his music career in NYC in 2015. "Virtues" is Nathaniel's debut release with a full album to come in the spring of 2021. He is also 1/2 of the band The Bergamot - who currently holds the #1 single on SubmitHub of All-Time. The Bergamot is also working on a full length documentary set for release in 2021 as well.
