"An indie/art-rock group made up myself, Rob McCall, and Corey Jordan. We write the songs. Nash Robb lays down the bass, our friends Zack Fitzgerald and Rob Zaccaria sprinkle their talent into the sound. The guy who runs our lab and engineers our sound is Mark Bengtson. Mark introduced us to Allen Tate of San Fermin, and Allen came on board to produce this 2 EP project ‘Colorful Lungs,’ In Brooklyn, Allen gave these songs form so we could give them color. 

Thom Yorke once said, “One of the things I find most offensive about what people say about our [Radiohead’s] music is when they say ‘it’s depressing.’” We feel the same. Depression has power when harnessed properly, and has fueled some of the greatest achievements of human history. We all suffer, and to turn away in ignorance is unforgivable in our opinion. 

 Our music embraces the eternal struggle we all have within - whether it’s mental illness, addiction, regret, loneliness, etc. Don’t think we’re calling ourselves ‘poets and heroes,’ we want our music to serve as a reminder that WE ARE ALL poets and heroes - doctors, police, sanitary workers, cooks, single mothers, the incarcerated - all of us can be the poets and heroes of our collective existence. Through our music, we attempt to express this sentiment. Some of you may hate it, some may love it, but at the end of the day we are who we are. Singer-songwriter Dustin Averbuch’s ethereal soundscapes combine genre-bending psychedelic influences with classic folk roots - creating a unique brand of contemplative acoustic ballads and heavenly washed-out noise. Oftentimes, the lyrics live within the peaceful natural world surrounding his home in Nashville, Tennessee, drawing upon the writings of naturalists like John Muir and John James Audubon and employing vivid nature metaphors to form meticulously crafted narratives. The songs tend to exist within the grey areas of life; naive love songs tinged with heartbreak, hopeful odes to an unsure future, and existential revelations that seem to contradict themselves. Currently, Dustin lives in New York City, and is working on future projects that further lean into the electronic and ambient influences that Staring at the Sun began to experiment with.

E.W. Harris is an alt-folk songwriter, producer, and artist based in Brooklyn, NY. A self-styled “Folktronicist'' and “Dystopian Romantic,” Harris combines sonic textures, powerful vocals, and memorable melodies to create music he calls “folk tunes from an (im)possible future.” Originally from post-industrial Akron, OH, his musical career flourished in the indie/art rock scene of Athens, GA in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. Harris’s reputation grew with his experimental approach to songwriting, recording, and genre. Upon relocating to Brooklyn, NY in 2009, his collaboration with Irish folk singer/songwriter Niall Connolly would lead Harris to focus more heavily on songwriting, to produce Connolly’s first US record, release seven albums of his own, and tour heavily throughout the US and Europe. 

Harris’s music is, in a word, eclectic, and his riveting live performances have attracted attention and acclaim. I Am Entertainment Magazine called his first album “uniquely cool and strange … It’s been a while since I’ve heard something so eclectic and interesting.” Bandcamp reviewer Alec Spurlock said Harris’s sound “reminds me of a modern-day Neil Young, but the style is more complex in the most beautiful way possible.” The Salisbury Post declared that Harris delivers an electro-pop performance of found sounds and lyricism that combine “to create an experience like no other.”

For the past year, Harris has been working extensively with award-winning producer Kia Eshghi with a focus on writing and recording Harris’s songs. The first fruits of this labor, “Hammerhands,” is scheduled for release August 2022, with future single releases slated for September 2022. The full album, “Homunculus IV,” is expected for digital release by October 2022.

Elijah Mann is a Brooklyn-based electro-folk singer/songwriter. Originally from Connecticut, he has made a name for himself in indie music scenes from LA to Austin and New England as a powerhouse performer with a knack for poignant lyrics.

His cover of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Cut To The Feeling” gained critical acclaim and has now reached over one million Spotify streams. In the fall of 2019, he released his EP “The Flooding Season,” described as “tumultuous and tender” (Adrienne Novy).

Now based in New York, Mann has featured at iconic venues such as Rockwood Music Hall, Berlin, and The Bowery Electric. In the past year, he has released "Without My Breath," featuring Ellajay and Grammy-nominated instrumentalist Dr. Blum (Misterwives, Twenty One Pilots); the "slow-burning" single "Clementine"; and a rendition of Leonard Cohen’s "Bird On The Wire'' for a tribute album produced by Adam Tilzer. Gavon Mitchell is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Singing and playing piano from a young age, Gavon developed his musical ear early. After studying opera in NYC for two years, he left to pursue his solo music career. Being raised in a slew of genres, from Iron Maiden, to Cusco, to Doc Watson, Gavon has an eclectic style of songwriting. His love for music and theory grants his songwriting a unique sense of harmony, rhythm, and overall musicality. A love of nature and curiosity about the human consciousness is showcased in his lyricism, often exploring the duality between the world outside ourselves, and the one that exists within. His lyrics go from raw and relatable, to etherial and pondering.

Gavon Mitchell plays guitar, mandolin, bass, keys, and sings. When performing solo, he prefers the “one man band” setup, bass drum on the right foot, and tambourine on the left. He is currently working on recording and releasing multiple singles, and his debut EP, by the end of 2022.

OAX is an indie pop-rock band from Queens, New York. It is the musical brainchild of Michael Raj and Frantz Cesar, who create the sonics and concepts behind their self-described style of “empathy pop” music. Their modern vintage musical sound draws from a wide range of influences like 60’s pop, 70’s Motown, and alternative R&B. They like to see themselves as “the beautiful sound of sadness”, a description coined by a close friend. Their music thematically focuses on the human condition, explorations of social constructs, and the decisions people make based from them, all tucked underneath pop melodies.

Jordan Popky is an indie-alternative singer-songwriter based in Brooklyn. After releasing her debut EP, Closer to Mine, in February 2021, she used the creative momentum to write, record, and release four singles in four months June-September that showcased her range as a songwriter and performer. Her clear, emotive vocals and image-heavy lyrics are the through-line that make her sound recognizable through a variety of styles. When live music returned to NYC, Popky continued to pull in audiences with both intimate acoustic trios and high-energy full band sets at venues like Mercury Lounge and The Bowery Electric. She launched into 2022 with "Ego to Feed," a catchy alt-pop single with scathing lyrics, and recently released a warm hug in the form of sweet alt-folk harmonies, "Untitled Drug Song."

Laura Mock is a folk pop singer-songwriter based in New York City. Originally from Bangor, Maine, Laura feels a deep connection to the peace and electricity of the natural world. A friend once said, "Your music is too cool for cottagecore," and though she clings to the Wooded Ideal, she can't help but agree. Her lyrics are dazzlingly down to Earth with a poetry that is caustic - yet sincere. Laura was classically trained in piano performance starting from age 6, so most of her songs begin there, if not fumbling on the guitar strings she watched Hozier tutorials to learn. She has sung her entire life, led performance groups throughout high school and college, and graduated from New York University in 2022 with a degree in Vocal Performance. Songwriting for Laura always begins with a combination; there is no separation of lyric and melody, instead they arrive to her pen in one piece. Studying with composition instructors Beata Hlavenkova and Joseph Church further clarified this instinct in Laura for lyrical and musical harmony. ​ Her first single "Landlocked" was released in June of 2023 with the help of producer Jason Sill, and is part of Laura's upcoming EP entitled "home//body", was released on November 8th, 2024, after 2 years of production.

Unruly Mane was formed in 2015 by married duo Leea Scarola and Steven Scarola, who were inspired to make music that honored their Irish and Italian roots. That sentiment birthed their first EP entitled Roots which combines boot-stomping sing-a-longs with tales of bravery, heartbreak, love, and perseverance.

Building off their diverse musical backgrounds, Steve and Leea have combined their love of rock, pop, and folk to create the signature sound of Unruly Mane. Steve Scarola began his songwriting journey as lead guitarist and songwriter for the critically acclaimed pop-rock band, Push Play. Steve co-wrote Midnight Romeo which got national radio play and reached #17 on the top 40 charts in 2009. After playing with Push Play for 5 years, Steve went to Fordham University where he met his now-wife, Leea, and together they formed La La Lush. La La Lush grew a strong cult following at Fordham and across NYC, leading them to sell out venues like Bowery Ballroom, share bills with Grouplove, appear at music festivals like SXSW, and get a feature spot in GEICO's Indie Across America Campaign.

After gaining a loyal fanbase from years of live shows in New York City, Unruly Mane has expanded their reach globally, having performed in Kenya, Ireland, and Canada. In 2020, Unruly Mane worked tirelessly in the studio with engineer Skylar Adler (of The Sound Is Fine and The Nico Blues), with plans to release various singles throughout 2023.
