Estella Dawn - Salt

February 08, 2022

In January 2021, we fell in love with Estella Dawn's pop sound, when she released the single "Petty". Not to be confused with her other single "Pretty". Sometimes a letter changes everything. Just as "Dawn" is a word that reveals much more beauty than "Down". And Estella is far from down, because, with each release, she becomes a little more professional. In 2022, it seems like all pop songs sound the same when you turn on your radio. It becomes difficult to differentiate Dua Lipa from Ava Max, for example.

Estella has her own style and her own vocal identity. I've heard thousands of female pop singers send me submissions, but I have to admit, when I hear Estella, it's very easy for me to recognize her. The artist gains each time in maturity. And her online community is growing at an astounding rate. But there's nothing weird about that, when the talent is there, and people relate to your songs, you can only grow fast.

"Salt" (not that of Ava Max, previously mentioned, but that of Estella Dawn), begins directly, without an intro, with a powerful sentence: "I don't wanna put my faith in fate". And the contrast between the darkness of the lyrics and the luminosity of the melody and vocals is absolutely stunning. The artist says that she has chemicals in her veins and inner wolves that sometimes sabotage her thoughts:

"I've always seen my internal darkness as wolves, I'm either part of the pack, or on the run from the parts of myself that scare me. But no matter which side I'm on, they're always there. When the pack is descending and my mind starts spiraling it feels like all I can do is keep my head down and set one foot in front of the other, just getting through the day in hope of a better tomorrow.

Wolves that we find at each catchy chorus, like an element from which it seems definitely difficult to detach. Often writing about confidence and empowerment, Estella uses her songs to clean up her ideas, sometimes too overwhelming to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Quite cinematic, we can easily imagine the song in a Netflix series, it would have its place. There are definitely sync opportunities that it would be a shame to ignore. Catchy as hell, the melody of "Salt" has been running through our heads since its release on Friday. And it is obvious that this song could become one of your favorites as well.

New Zealand-born, US-based artist proves to us that she is up to the challenge, and could invade the radio waves of the whole world in a few months. In any case, we are seriously convinced of it. She has the makings of a great artist and might surprise you. Remember her name, you will hear about her again.

Also, make sure to check out her whole discography on Spotify. From her soulful debut single "Feet" in 2018, to the amazing electro "Sweet Lies" in 2019, and the wonderful "Hallow", the artist has a huge range of genres and amazing songs to put in your playlists.
