Last Year's Man - Better Left Unsaid

November 21, 2022

When I heard "Better Left Unsaid" for the first time, I had an immediate crush. The song whose song slowly builds to an epic finale is exactly what I love. And since Tyler, aka Last Year's Man, told me it was the opener for his freshly released new album "Time Is A Sparrow", it made me want to listen to more. And that's how we find ourselves spending half an hour in a magical musical universe, between indie-folk and melancholy.

But let's talk about "Better Left Unsaid" first since that's what our article of the day is about. What appears to be a delicious upbeat folk ballad turns out to be a real gem of the genre! Yes, you'll see, just when you're thinking "oh, this song is wonderful, but it's a bit lacking in energy", the musician gives it all in an epic, upbeat and powerful ending. The artist sets the tone of the whole album in this perfect opener, based on the stanza "You can't open old doors and expect to get somewhere new".

And good news! This album opens a multitude of doors toward very varied universes. Between the powerful hammered rhythm of "Only Memories", and the luminous and moving side of "Time Brings Change", without forgetting the invitation to enjoy life in "Chasing Down The Sun", this album is one of the best that I have ever listened to. We friendly recommend that you listen to it below.

From one song to another, the artist reveals the chapters of a magnificent book and the different periods of a life filled with adventures.

With "Better Left Unsaid", we made a combo: we discovered a superb song, an authentic and human artist, and an album to listen to on repeat. Preferably under the duvet with hot tea.

Reach out to Last Year's Man
