Magazine FAQ

What is Niko's Music Magazine?

Niko's Music Magazine is an independent publication that promotes indie musicians and their work. I have promoted indie artists since 2001 through national FM radio waves, online radio stations, and blogs, and I have written thousands of music reviews on Indie Music Center since 2017. I launched the magazine on Patreon in November 2024, so now I can focus on quality before quantity. Each issue highlights artists and their stories with in-depth interviews, articles, photos, games, and more.

Why use Patreon?

I chose Patreon because it’s a reliable, solid, and secure platform with a strong presence. I’m confident that your payments will be secure, and my content will be well-organized for easy access.

Is it available in print?

Nope, I'd love to, but honestly, it would be too expensive for you to buy! Niko's Music Magazine is only available in digital format on Patreon. This allows me to keep subscription costs low and reach an audience that doesn't have a huge budget to support indie artists. I looked into potential printing options, but the prices are quite prohibitive. Additionally, shipping costs abroad are truly impressive. So a magazine copy would cost something like $45 if you live in the US, and €35 if you live in Europe. To me, this is unacceptable to make you pay that much. Moreover, printing that much paper goes against my ecological values, as I strive to reduce my carbon footprint as much as possible. The high-quality PDF file should allow you to go to your local printer and print it if you'd like, though.

How often is the magazine released?

The magazine is released on the 5th of each month on the shop, and subscribers get it on the 3rd.

How can I subscribe to the magazine?

You can subscribe through Patreon for €6 ($7) per month and you'll save the equivalent of two issues over a year.

Can I buy single issues instead of subscribing?

Yes, single issues are available from the Patreon shop for €7 or $8. Patreon may add some fees.

Also, never buy from the Patreon app from an iPhone: they almost double the price! Do it from your web browser instead.

However, a monthly subscription provides more value and is cheaper: you get 2 free issues per year + all the podcasts, all previous and future issues, including special issues.

Is there a discount for artists featured in the magazine?

What if we asked the same question to The New York Times or Rolling Stone, haha?

I used to offer my work for free from 2001 to 2024. But I can't do it anymore. Remember that most blogs or outlets will ask you to spend money on SubmitHub, Groover, or MusoSoup and then they will write your article with Chat-GPT. I still write everything by myself, with my brain, my fingers, and above all: my heart and I take the time to do it. And this has a value. Because in a year or two, I'll probably be one of the last dinosaurs working this way.

If you're an artist, supporting the magazine by purchasing your feature or subscribing helps sustain this project and allows me to reinvest in advertising to promote the magazine further. This means greater visibility for your feature (and the next ones!) and all the amazing indie artists I highlight.

It’s also worth noting that my submission process is completely free! By staying fully independent, I make sure that every artist has an equal opportunity to be featured, with no upfront fees or hidden costs: you know that you're gonna be potentially featured in a magazine, and you know that the magazine isn't free. No surprises.

How can I submit my music to be featured in the magazine?

Artists can submit music through the website's "Submit Music" section. I recommend reading the Submissions FAQ first and submit from a computer.
