Specific Coast - I'm Just a Dog

August 26, 2022

Matt Dunne, better known as "Specific Coast" keeps blowing us away release after release, and he's back with a heartbreaking new single.

The artist had the chance to rub shoulders with the music industry. But was it really a chance when you know how difficult it is for independent artists to find a place?

This is how "I'm Just a Dog" was born, after spending whole days taking refuge in music, as Matt said: "When I first moved to Los Angeles, I had the privilege of sitting down with several music executives. I was told I was too nice to work in the music industry and that I should find a different career. I was heartbroken. At that time, I was still searching for a full-time job and remember sitting in my apartment just writing songs and waiting for my friends to get home from their jobs. I felt like a dog... just waiting for the front door to open".

The metaphor might make you smile at first, but it points to a situation that many artists go through: loneliness. Even those who do regular livestreams on Twitch, or have frequent gigs around town. All find themselves alone at a precise moment when the lights go out. It's part of an artist's life.

With a very moving chorus, Matt captures this loneliness and each line is more powerful than the last. However, this song is the result of a long journey full of pitfalls, as Matt says: "I stopped releasing original music and focused on finding a career. I held jobs in management, publishing, music supervision, in marketing for indie and major labels, etc. In 2021, I placed several songs in the hit Netflix series Ginny & Georgia. Since then, I'm making up for lost time! "I'm Just a Dog" is 9 years in the making. feels like I'm closing a chapter in my life where I didn't believe in myself or my own music".

A new chapter, therefore, for the artist, who sees here his third IMC feature in less than two years, and whose previous singles "Wasn't Love" and "Nothing Hill" have already conquered more than 2,000 of our readers.

No doubt that if you go through periods of loneliness (who doesn't have one?), this song will accompany your longest evenings, until you get the light you need to take a step back. A true masterpiece, whether in writing or melody, with sincere vocals that will give you your dose of chills.
