Here's my favorite former mechanical engineer ever. And I'm not kidding. Southey quit this job to devote himself to music. And, obviously, it was a wise decision. After a very short intro, we discover the voice of the Australian artist in a few seconds, and we are immediately absorbed in "Run River", a song with a rather incredible folk-rock atmosphere.

A multi-instrumentalist, but I would also say, multi caps, because Southey didn't just write, record, and produce this little gem. He also built a guitar himself which he used in the song. That's not all, he also hand-painted the artwork for the single.

We can really talk about an artist from every angle.

Painting in the song a relationship that is coming to an end despite his efforts, Southey draws an interesting parallel with a river flowing rapidly towards the sea. One feels that nature is an integral part of his universe because the artist is comfortable with references to water.

Full of poetry in the lyrics, magic in the melody, and melancholy in the atmosphere, and despite an inevitable outcome for the relationship, "Run River" leaves us feeling serene and could be the ideal soundtrack for your Saturday, to think quietly on a hammock about your struggles (if you have some).

For a debut single, the result is professional, clean, and impressive. We can't wait to hear what's next.

Lyrics

I used to have a line

Between what was wrong

And what i thought was right

It kept bending all the time

Winding through relationships

Like a river running wild

Like a river running wild

I've been drinking here some time

I've been trying to see the light

Behind your waterfall of tears

Let's wash away our fears

Then breakaway

Erode our way through this

Run river

Flow river

Faster to the sea

Run river

Roar river

Rushing over me

Run river

Flow river

Faster to the sea

Run river

Roar river

Rushing oh

Rushing over me

Maybe this time i might stay

I'll try and find another way

Maybe there's more to you and me

Maybe we drift until we're free

Run river

Flow river

Faster to the sea

Run river

Roar river

Rushing over me

Run river

Flow river

Faster to the sea

Run river

Roar river

Rushing oh

Rushing over me

The fires warm

When the waters cold

I'm trying hard to let you know

The sun shines

While the tide flows

The light won't reach us down below
