Our thoughts about the song :

The artist with the magic hat is back. Yes, magic! Because we are convinced that he hides notebooks under his hat, filled with happy songs ready to bloom. And if his hat never leaves him, the same goes for his talent. We would be lying to you if we told you that we haven't missed Hugo Valentine. And his return put a smile on our face. The London artist, who has accustomed us to explosions of colors and crazy musical flights, returns with a new single, released today, "Rule The World". And, once again, this wonderful singer is breathtaking. His musical universe is a little lost a in several genres, be it pop or folk, but always carrying a positive energy. The lyrics are well calibrated, to motivate you to always keep fighting and never give up. A joyful anthem, in which the emotion gradually rises, following the intensity of the melody. The bridge is loaded with emotions with powerful choirs. And the final chorus takes care of the rest. You will want to give out free hugs to everyone after listening to this track. Included in our "Indie Pop Anthems" playlist. You can find this playlist on: Spotify / Soundcloud

Hugo Valentine's point of view :

Rule the world is a song about a close friend of mine who has been suffering from addiction. It’s an appeal to him to fight to regain his love of life and to find joy in positive things. It is difficult to witness the desperation and destruction that addiction causes but in writing ‘Rule The World’, I seek to sum up both pain and hope, aiming to uplift the listener and bring light to the darkness. The production for this song was exciting to do. Henrik and I took to the studio as normal, and after not very long a clear picture had formulated of how we would play this out. Drums and bass guitar set the tone for the track, and the rest fell into place soon after. We really explored the use of builds in this track, using breakdowns and big backing vocals to bring light and shade. This one has not yet been heard live - something to look forward to when we begin doing live shows again!

Biography:

Born and raised in London, multi-instrumentalist Hugo Valentine has finally arrived on the scene as a singer-songwriter. His sound captures the essence of British and in particular London culture. His songs are of a catchy nature, always packed full of lyrical depth and colour, and his influences are widespread, ranging from Coldplay to Elton John, Alicia Keys to Queen to Arctic Monkeys, David Bowie to Radiohead, among many others. Growing up with a varied musical upbringing, Hugo Valentine all began when he taught himself ‘twinkle twinkle little star’ at the age of four on a toy piano that his grandmother had bought him and started taking piano lessons in his London home. At the age of 10, Hugo was admitted into the Royal College of Music junior department and remained there for four years where he was trained in classical music and, above all, the piano. Hugo’s homegrown, self-taught approach has carried him through to this point. Using production initially as inspiration, and then as a way of getting his ideas across, he now has the tools to take his songs almost to their final stages of completion. In fact, this is how ‘A Nation Of People’ EP came about - four tracks originally written for piano which he took to the next level with his exciting approach to creative production.
